Treat Body Acne While Pregnant

You may experience many bodily changes during pregnancy, due to the hormonal fluctuations taking place. Women often report variations in their hair growth cycles as well as changes in skin condition during pregnancy. Since hormone levels are elevated, it is no surprise that many women experience body acne while pregnant. Generally, the acne will subside post-pregnancy. There are, however, many things you can do to treat your body blemishes when you are expecting.

Instructions

1. Wash the area with an antibacterial cleanser twice daily. While pregnancy acne is often caused by hormone levels, bacteria can exacerbate it. An antibacterial cleanser will get rid of the dirt, oil and bacteria which may be contributing to your acne.

2. Exfoliate. Use a loofah and body scrub to exfoliate your skin at least twice weekly. Dead skin cells on the surface layer of your skin can clog pores and worsen your body acne. Exfoliation also encourages skin cell regeneration, so your skin will look firmer and smoother as a result.

3. Apply an over-the-counter acne treatment cream. Choose topical creams that contain benzoyl peroxide which is effective at eliminating acne. Rub a thin layer of cream on the acne once a day.

4. Try natural acne treatments. Aloe vera gel and green tea extract are both used to treat acne. They draw out excess oils and encourage overall skin health. Rub a small amount on the affected area twice daily.

5. Exercise. Cardiovascular exercise improves circulation, meaning that blood and nutrients can reach the troubled skin more easily. Talk to your doctor before beginning an exercise program while pregnant. Generally, walking or swimming provides sufficient exercise to improve circulation.

6. Consume a well-balanced diet. In addition to nourishing your baby, solid nutrition also contributes to healthy skin. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible, particularly foods that contain Vitamin C and zinc. Both nutrients are essential to skin health.

7. Drink plenty of water. Water flushes toxins from your skin, helping to improve acne. Aim to drink at least 64 oz. of water daily.

8. Steam the area. Run a hot shower and stand in the steam for several minutes. You can also fill a bowl with boiling water and hold the affected body area over the steam. This will help to cleanse your pores, thereby improving the acne situation.
