Cook Pasta Properly To Prevent Food Poisoning

When most people think of food poisoning, they think of bad meat or hot dogs. You can, in fact, get food poisoning from any food that isn't cooked correctly. Pasta is one of those foods. Read cook pasta properly to prevent food poisoning.

1. The first thing we need to look at is how people get food poisoning and what are it's symptoms. Food poisoning is caused by harmful bacteria, and it can produce many flu-like symptoms in humans. You can get stomach cramps, vomiting and sometimes diarrhea. Most likely you will be sick for 24 hours, but you could be sick for a few days. When foods are cooked properly, the bacteria can be killed off, posing no threat to you or your family. Since bacteria can live in starches such as pasta, it is important to know cook them.


2. You can cook your pasta on the stove top. This is the traditional way pasta is prepared. The first thing you want to do is wash your hands. Then wipe down your work area. Fill your pot 3/4 full with water. Turn your stove knob to high. Make sure your water has come to a complete boil before adding the pasta. Cook 15 minutes or until pasta is tender. One trick to knowing if the pasta is done is to throw a piece on to your ceiling. If it sticks, it's done. Your children will surely want to participate in that. Don't eat the piece you through on the ceiling!








3. An even better way to cook your pasta is to use a crockpot. Cooking foods steadily over a longer period of time has been shown to prevent diseases. It may take a little longer, but if it is safer for your family, isn't it worth it? Add some water to your crockpot and turn it's heat to low. Once it is heated up, add your pasta and let sit for at least 1 hour.


4. Practicing proper handling of food can just about eliminate any chance of you getting sick. If you want to make sure you don't get food poisoning from your pasta, then you need to make sure you are practicing good hygiene.
