You may have had the experience of visiting the doctor and being prescribed a pill to swallow that looks like something that couldn't possibly float easily down your esophagus. Or, maybe you chose a multi-vitamin that you wish you hadn't, after seeing the size of it. Swallowing pills doesn't have to be an anxiety-inducing event -- if you follow a few simple tips.
Instructions
1. Prepare some sort of beverage. You can use water, but juice is often better because it has a slippery effect. Pineapple, peach or apricot juices have the best consistency. Don't try to swallow pills without any liquid, the pill is almost sure to stick somewhere inside of your mouth. You can also choose to take a spoonful of pudding or yogurt after drinking some juice, to help the pill go down.
2. Keep your head evenly facing forward. Try not lean forward or backward, as this can restrict the ease of the pill floating down. Open
3. Relax your throat and neck muscles. Take a drink of liquid as you usually do, and swallow the pill. Some people choose to drink the liquid out of a straw to narrow the tongue and focus the liquid and pill toward the back of the throat.
