Before having a massive stroke, many people will experience warning signs of some sort. These warning signs are referred to as TIA, or Transient Ischemic Attack. This is what causes the symptoms of the stroke rather than the damage. Many times the symptoms will only last for about five minutes, making them easy to ignore; however, a TIA is a red flag that a stroke is coming, so its symptoms shouldn't be ignored.
Speech
Those experiencing a TIA generally have slurred speech, trouble understanding what is being said to them, or difficulty speaking. They may think they are saying something, when in actuality nothing is coming out.
Vision
Loss of vision or double vision is another common symptom of a TIA. This can occur in one or both of the eyes.
Weakness
A TIA may produce a weakness or paralysis in an arm and leg, as well as the face. This generally occurs in only one side of the body.
Balance
Those experiencing a TIA will have a difficult time maintaining their coordination, lose their balance easily and may have a difficult time walking.
Warning
It is possible to experience one or all of before having a massive stroke. Although these symptoms may go away after a few minutes, it is imperative to seek immediate medical attention once they have occurred.
