What Is Nux Vomica Used For

Nux vomica is a popular homeopathic remedy used mainly for colds and flu, especially when the main symptoms are irritability, nausea and vomiting.

Homeopathic Medicine

Homeopathy is a non-habit forming, natural medicine based on the Law of Similars, which states that "like is cured by like." The pill form of small doses called "potencies" are used of the remedy that would cause the same symptoms the patient has, if given in high doses.

Origins

Nux vomica is also called the poison nut. The medicine is made from the seeds of the strychnos tree, the source of strychnine.

Physical Ailments

Besides colds and flu, Nux vomica helps with nausea associated with taking in too much food and drink. For this reason, it is also known as a remedy for hangovers.

Emotional Ailments

It's also used to treat depression, impatience, irritability and sensitivity to light, noise, odors and touch.

Where to Purchase

Nux vomica is sold through health food stores and online from retailers, such as Amazon, or directly through homeopathic remedy manufacturers, such as Boiron and Hyland's Homeopathy. Depending on the bottle size, it will cost anywhere from $6 to $12.
