Stress Relief Activities For Kids

Parents often forget that kids get stressed too. It doesn't matter how old the kids are, they all experience stress. That's why it's so important to find easy ways to help your kids de-stress throughout the week. School, friends and family life can really create a lot of stress for kids. Add in some after-school sports and other activities, and it can be even worse.

Napping

Encourage your children to take naps, even if the children are older. Older kids can benefit from naps just as much as younger kids. Sleep is how we revitalize ourselves and how we recuperate. No one is sure exactly why we need to sleep, but we are sure that we need it and can't function without it. By encouraging your children to take naps, you will be reducing fatigue and their stress levels too. This also helps you because it gives you the opportunity to take a small break from your kids (or catch some sleep yourself), which can put you in a better place for dealing with your own stresses. Early afternoon just after lunchtime is the ideal time for younger children to take naps. Older children should be encouraged to take a nap after school. Make sure you have an energizing snack ready for your child when he or she wakes up. Cheese and apple slices are a healthy and easy snack.

Pets

Pets are not only a stress-reliever for parents but for children too. Having pets to look after teaches children responsibility, which gives them a better sense of self-worth and accomplishment. Most children will strike a rewarding bond with the pet, as well as experience stress relief. Not to mention that pets are a lot of fun. Dogs can be trained to do all sorts of fun things and can accompany children to the park or on a walk (another way to relieve stress is physical activity). Cats are relaxing and calming and can also make great pets. Snakes and other reptiles are not suitable pets for small children.

Creative Activities

Children love to be creative and most children are naturally creative. It's a good idea to encourage creativity by providing the child with creative activities in which to participate. Kids need to stay creative with things like playing interactive-games play, working with clay and painting. This type of creative activity can keep children busy for hours. It de-stresses them in the process, which is a bonus for both the child and parents. Also, encouraging your children to write down their thoughts and do creative writing is another creative activity for them to try.

What Is Eucalyptus Oil

What Is Eucalyptus Oil?

Eucalyptus oil is an essential oil obtained through steam distillation of eucalyptus leaves and branch tips. It is part of many cultures, with items used for medical reasons, aromatherapy and as a fragrance of perfume. The smell of can be pungent, woodsy and lemony and can even provide a peppermint scent.

Geography

Originally, eucalyptus trees were found in Pacific countries. These countries include Australia, New Guinea, Tasmania, New Zealand and other close-by islands. Today, Eucalyptus trees are located around the world. It was from European discovery of the oil's use in Australia that spread it from localized use to widespread use in lives across the world.

Features

There are 700 plus species of trees within the genus Eucalyptus, which in turn is part of the Myrtle family. Useful oils from the trees of this genus are essentially divided into three grades for medicine, perfume and industry. These grades are based partly on the chemical eucalyptol (also known as cineol), a colorless or light yellow liquid found within the eucalyptus oil.

Eucalyptol is used to determine whether the oil is used as medicine or suited for other uses. The chief chemical components of eucalyptus oils are a-pinene, b-pinene, a-phellandrene, aromadendrene, 1, 8-cineole, globulol, limonene, piperitone,terpinen-4-ol and epiglobulol.

Types

Oil used for medical applications is from E. polybractea and E. globulus, due to their higher amounts of eucalyptol. For aromatherapy, E. globulus and E. citriod can be used. Lemon scented oil is obtained from E. citriodora. This oil along with E. Sturtiana and E. odorata are used for perfume ingredients. There is even a peppermint fragrance in the oil of E. radiate and E. dives. Industrial use oil is from E. dives, E. Smithii and E. amygdalina. Their level of eucalyptol is low.

Function

As a food additive eucalyptus oil can, among other uses, flavor baked goods and gum. In pharmaceuticals it acts as an analgesic, antibacterial, antiseptic, cough medicine, decongestant, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, blood flow stimulant, diuretic, fever reducer and expectorant. It also has veterinary medicine applications.

It can be used as a cleaner, deodorizer, an insecticide and an insect repellant as well as to provide the fragrance for aromatherapy, soap products and perfume. In industry eucalyptus oil can be used in refining ore. The oil separates metallic sulphides from unwanted materials.

Considerations

Full strength eucalyptus oil used internally is toxic. Don't use it when there is a digestive problem, high blood pressure, epilepsy or during a pregnancy or when breast feeding, and don't give it to infants or children. Full strength oil shouldn't be used on skin and excessive use may cause headaches.

Eucalyptus oil's potential is still being studied. If processing costs can be reduced, the oil has a high enough octane rating to be used for fuel.

Time Frame

The use of eucalyptus as a medical aid was applied first by Australian aborigines. European explorers collected specimens of eucalyptus in the 1700s and returned them to Europe. A eucalyptus distilling and commercial enterprise in Australia was started by the pharmacist Joseph Bosisto in 1852 and is still processing eucalyptus oil in 2009.

Skin Cancer Prevention

Skin cancer comes in different forms. Melanoma forms in the pigment skin cells, basal cell carcinoma develops in the basal skin cells and squamous cell carcinoma grows in the squamous skin cells. The prevention and treatment options for each of these types of cancer are the same.

Clothing

Prevent sun exposure by wearing dark colors of clothing. It also helps to wear a hat and sunglasses, which may shade more of your skin from the sun's rays.

Sunscreen

The American Cancer Society (ACS) recommends applying a sunscreen with an SPF factor of 15 or higher every 2 hours when in direct sunlight.

Shade

Try to stay out of direct sunlight if possible. According to the ACS, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. has the worst ultraviolet (UV) rays and should be avoided by staying in the shade whenever feasible.

Avoid Tanning Beds

One way to lower the risk of skin cancer is to avoid tanning beds or sun lamps. The UV radiation in tanning beds can be damaging to the skin and increase the likelihood of getting skin cancer.

Mole Removal

Visiting a dermatologist annually may prevent skin cancer. Getting a doctor's opinion on moles that change in appearance is important. A mole can be easily removed if a doctor thinks it may become cancerous.

Symptoms Of Liver Disease

The liver is the largest filter in our body. There are many diseases that cause it to work improperly or to stop working all together. A few of those diseases are cirrhosis, Hepatitis A, B and C, hepatocellular carcinoma, Reye's syndrome and Wilson's disease. There are many common symptoms to these diseases.

Yellowing Skin

One of the commonly known symptoms of liver disease is jaundice or skin yellowing. The whites of the eyes also take on a yellow tinge. This is caused by high levels of bile in the blood stream.

Dark Urine

When the liver is not filtering as it should, the urine will become darker and bile is released during urination.

Weight

Many times there is a loss of appetite as well as unusually quick weight loss or gain. Vomiting and diarrhea as well as light, loose stools are common in liver disease.

Excessive Urination

Polyuria is a term meaning excessive urination. Another symptom is excessive thirst. The body is trying to get rid of the toxins the liver is no longer able to filter.

Miscellaneous Symptoms

Symptoms that are common with liver disease and may or may not appear in a person include depression, spasms, stroke, seizures and mood swings.

Work With A Bipolar Person

Under the Americans With Disabilities Act, no one may be prevented from holding a job because of a physical or mental condition. Many people with bipolar disorder are terrific employees, with excellent work ethic and a dedication to getting the job done right. But their condition also makes them difficult to get along with at times. Bipolar patients cycle between manic highs and depressive lows, which can affect their productivity and interfere with personal relationships. Every bipolar patient is different, of course--and their condition is no one's responsibility but their own--but coworkers can take steps to make working with them easier.

Instructions

1. Educate yourself about bipolar disorder and learn to recognize the signs of its various cycles. During the manic phase, the patient is optimistic, buoyant and full of energy. He may show extreme zeal at a given task or race from one project to the next. The depressive phase involves the exact opposite. The patient may appear listless and depressed, or get snappish at other workers. These cycles can last for days or months, depending upon the patient. Spotting which cycle your coworker is in can help you deal with him more readily.

2. Encourage a work environment which helps a bipolar patient handle his condition. It may be as simple as opening the window shades on a sunny day or asking for more light sources to brighten the office environment. (Full spectrum lighting, in particular, can be helpful, because it imitates sunlight, which is known to have an effect on mood.) Flexible hours and lower stress tasks are also beneficial.

3. Set appropriate boundaries. While you can be supportive by offering to reduce stress, make sure your work duties are clear and that you don't end up "covering" work which your bipolar colleague should be doing. A good rule of thumb is to work with a bipolar colleague to finish a given task, not finish it for him.

4. Maintain a pleasant demeanor, but be firm in your views. Yelling at a bipolar coworker accomplishes nothing and may make things worse.

5. Don't take hurtful comments personally. While your bipolar colleague is responsible for his behavior toward you, it stems from his condition rather than any deliberately cruel or hurtful place. Keep an even temper and wait for the incident to pass. When it does, arrange for a time to speak to both the bipolar coworker and your superior about the matter. Make your points clearly and calmly, and seek a mutually acceptable solution rather than provoking another confrontation. You may wish to do this during a stable period of the bipolar cycle, when your coworker is apt to be more rational.

Ways To Recover From Gambling Addiction

Gambling addiction can cause a person to lose it all--his job, finances, close relationships and family responsibilities. Many people find it difficult to control the impulse to gamble no matter how dire the consequences. Treatment is often necessary to overcome such a serious problem. Some of the most popular and successful recovery options include psychotherapy, self-help groups and medication.

Psychotherapy

One of the most successful forms of psychotherapy for gambling addiction is cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). This type of therapy teaches clients to identify their own irrational, negative or destructive thought patterns and beliefs. This then allows the person to work on changing these beliefs and thoughts into positive ones. This works because positive thoughts are much more conducive to determination and motivation to change. Negative thoughts, on the other hand, can feed a gambling problem and cause debts and relationship problems to deepen.

Gamblers Anonymous

Self-help groups are a popular choice for people seeking help with a gambling addiction. Gamblers Anonymous is one such group in which the emphasis is placed on developing a support system to aid in beating the addiction. Group meetings allow members to share stories, advice, and feedback with each other, all in the hope that each member will uncover his or her own reason for gambling in the first place. Although this option is popular, it has not yet proven to be as successful as other programs of its type, such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

Medication

Medication can be helpful in overcoming a gambling addiction as a supplement to therapy or another recovery program. Just as in the case of substance abuse, many people with gambling addictions suffer from mood or emotional problems, which may make recovery more difficult. In this case, medications such as antidepressants and mood stabilizers can help regulate mood and keep the person on track to recovery.

Remove Ticks From Humans & Pets

Most chemical solutions or soaps will hinder tick removal. There is an exception.

Instructions

1. Do not try another method of tick removal first and then try this one. Wounded ticks or those exposed to most typical chemicals or soaps will not likely be able to release their bite. Removing a dead tick, with jaws frozen shut, may require a comb or tweezers and force that could cause a little of the patients flesh to have to be pulled out with the tick and may cause minute bleeding.

2. Get a pint or quart of Mystery Oil (it comes in a red can) at auto parts stores and other places where oil supplies or sold. Apply the oil directly to the ticks and surrounding areas of skin. Give the ticks 5 to 10 seconds to get drunk from skin penetration. Move the ticks back and forth slowly and gently. (You can use your fingers, with a glove on if you prefer, or a cue tip). Perhaps this tires their jaw muscles. When you sense, they've released their bite, pull them out slowly. (If the head of a tick and enough of its body is left in the victim, the tick may grow back to full size or cause itching for days).

3. Large and stubborn ticks may require additional Mystery Oil to get them to relax their bite. It may take a full minute to get a stubborn tick out.

4. After you've discovered one or more ticks in a pet's fur, you may need to pour some Mystery Oil into your hand before you approach an animal. (Some pets, especially cats, have a tendency to run when they see you coming at them with a container). Rub the Mystery Oil into their fur with your fingers in the area you discovered ticks.

5. When digging a relaxed tick out of a long haired furry animal use a comb. A fine toothed comb may be necessary for small ticks.

6. Check for ticks in the inner ear of animals. Bleeding ears is probably an indication a pet has been hopelessly trying to scratch away ticks.

7. Mystery oil will not aid in the removal of a tick that is already dead. However, it appears to work very well to prevent infection in these cases.

8. Get your anti flea and tick medications for animals from a veterinarian, a pet or feed store, the kind you apply to the back of a pet' s neck. They're usually good for about 3 or 4 months. Read the directions carefully. (3 month medications are generally for pets at least 3 to 6 months old). Once or twice a year is likely enough applications in most climates. In winter months they are probably unnecessary.

Find An Iridology Practitioner

Find an Iridology Practitioner

Iridology is a branch of alternative medicine that uses the iris as a window to a patient's health. Iridology practitioners diagnose patients by examining their irises for cell changes indicated by different markings or colors. It's thought that a new marking indicates a potential problem or weakness in a specific area of the body since nerve endings in the eyes are connected to areas all over the body. It's used to diagnose problems and vulnerabilities--rather than specific conditions--in all major organs, including the heart, liver, lungs and brain. Follow these steps to find an iridology practitioner for you.

Instructions

Find an Iridology Practitioner in Your Area

1. Visit the "International Iridology Practitioners Association" (IIPA) Web site to learn more about the discipline of iridology (see Resources below). Be aware that iridology isn't used to diagnose specific problems or diseases, only to locate areas of the body where there might be problems or where there could potentially be problems in the future. It's used mainly to make the patient aware of the types of health issues he or she should be concerned about.

2. Research the different types of iridology practitioners online. Decide which type you want to consult. Also decide what you want to get out of your consultation. Medical and spiritual iridology practitioners have very different methods and thus yield very different results.

3. Call or email the IIPA to ask for a list of iridology practitioners in your area.

4. Set up an appointment with the practitioner who works closest to your home or office. If you're lucky enough to have several to choose from, chat with a few candidates over the phone. Then make an appointment with the person with whom you have the most rapport.

Tricare Partial Hospitalization Regulations

Regulations allow approval of partial hospitalization programs by Tricare authority.

Tricare is the single-pay health-care program of the Department of Defense, formerly known as the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS). It uses a variety of providers to offer plan benefits. Hospitals that provide Tricare psychiatric partial hospitalization programs (PHP) follow Tricare regulations. The programs offer a comprehensive and integrated schedule for partially stabilized mental health disorders. Hospitals providing PHPs must be certified according to Tricare certification standards.

Eligibility

All freestanding PHPs must have certification prior to Tricare approval. They must meet criteria set forth by the Director of Tricare Management Activity. A PHP at a Tricare-certified hospital is not required to be separately certified. Tricare approval of a hospital is sufficient for its PHP to be authorized as a Tricare provider.

Treatment Program

The treatment program of either a freestanding PHP or a hospital PHP must be operated by the psychiatrist employed by the PHP. This certifies the needs of the patients for medication and physical therapy. The primary or attending provider must have authorization as a mental health provider operating within the standards of the provider's license. Providers include clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, certified psychiatric nurse specialists, clinical psychologists, pastoral counselors, and mental health counselors.

Participation Agreement

Certified programs must have a participation agreement with Tricare/CHAMPUS and must have the required pre-authorization before patients can be admitted. A participation agreement application can be obtained from the National Quality Monitoring Contractor (NQMC).

Requirements

PHPs have to follow authorization requirements and keep their accreditation by following the standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) under the Mental Health Manual. The PHP must be fully operational and have treated patients for at least six months (with a 30 percent minimum patient census) before submitting an application to the NQMC for approval. Prior to the date the facility receives approval, no PHP shall be considered an authorized provider or be paid benefits.

Epley Maneuver For Meniere'S Disease

The National Institutes of Health reports that 615,000 Americans suffer from Meniere's disease, a disorder of the inner ear that causes vertigo, hearing loss and ringing in the ears. In addition to medications, some patients with Meniere's disease receive relief from a procedure known as the Epley maneuver.

Identification

The Epley maneuver is a series of head positions that you make under the supervision of a doctor or chiropractor.

Function

The Epley maneuver helps reposition fluid and particles in the ear canal that are often responsible for causing vertigo in patients with Meniere's disease.

Time Frame

A study at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo in 2007 revealed that it takes an average of three sessions using the Epley maneuver to relieve vertigo caused by Meniere's disease.

Restrictions

If you have a history of gastrointestinal reflux, a detached retina, an ear deformity called perilymph fistula, or circulatory disorders such as vertebrobasilar insufficiency, it may not be safe for you to undergo the Epley maneuver.

Considerations

Even though instructions for perform the Epley maneuver are available online and in books, never try to do the series of moves without a physician present to prevent injury.

Use Flaxseed Oil For Weight Loss

Use Flaxseed Oil for Weight Loss

Everybody seems to have a secret for losing weight. The truth is, in order to achieve and maintain a significant weight loss, you need to burn more calories than you consume. Flaxseed products may be able to help you. The oil is a powerful antioxidant that can help boost your metabolism. Whole or ground flaxseed provides you with dietary fiber that makes you feel fuller and omega-3 fatty acids that can possibly curb cravings for sweets.

Instructions

1. Start your journey to weight loss by making smart decisions about the foods you eat. Bake or broil lean meats instead of frying them. Eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Adding flaxseed to an already healthy diet will aid weight loss much more than simply using flaxseed and maintaining poor habits.

2. Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of flaxseed oil to a large glass of water and mix well. If you do not care for the nutty flavor of the oil, use low-calorie juice instead of water. Drink one glass of the mixture every day to benefit from the high levels of omega-3 fatty acids.

3. Drizzle a flaxseed oil dressing over your green salad. Use equal parts of olive and flaxseed oils, and add some lemon juice. The omega-3 in the dressing is a "good" fat and may reduce your body's craving for sweets and fatty foods.

4. Use ground flaxseed in your foods to add more fiber to your diet. Fiber makes us feel full on less food, so you may be less likely to overeat.

5. Find a store or farm stand that sells organic eggs laid by flax-fed chickens. Their eggs tend to have more omega-3 in them than regular eggs and provide you with protein. It is important when you are trying to lose weight to keep your strength up with a protein-rich diet.

How Does Chemotherapy Work

Chemotherapy Overview

Chemotherapy is the mainstay treatment for cancer that has spread from the primary point. Treating cancer with chemotherapy is a process of introducing medication into the body for the purpose of destroying biological cells including cancer cells.

Chemotherapy Drugs

There are over 100 different drugs available to treat cancer. Each has different properties and functions for destroying cancer cells. The chemotherapy drug of use is selected according to the type of cancer it best destroys. Chemotherapy drugs are categorized into groups according to the function. Alkylating agents are drugs that destroy the DNA of a cell to prevent it from reproducing. Antimetabolite drugs prevent the DNA and RNA of a cell from growing into a mature cell. Anti-tumor antibiotics destroy the enzyme a cell needs to reproduce its DNA. Mitotic inhibitors prevent cells from obtaining the protein needed for survival. These are just a few groups of chemotherapy drugs, and new drugs are being developed regularly.

Chemotherapy Drug Effects on a Cell

Chemotherapy drugs are designed to destroy cells either by preventing the cell from reproducing or depriving the cell of enzymes and proteins needed to live. Current chemotherapy drugs do not attack just cancer cells; they destroy other normal cells as well. This is why such severe side effects are common. For example, weakness is caused by destroying normal red blood cells, and hair falls out due to follicle cells being destroyed.

Method of Administration

Chemotherapy drugs can be administered in three ways. The route of administration is determined by the individual chemotherapy drug. Some drugs may be administered by taking a pill, while others may be administered through an intramuscular shot. The third and most common is the intravenous administration of chemotherapy drug. This requires a monitored session at a hospital or clinic.

Do Sports Massage For Ankle Sprains

The cross friction massage technique is used to do sports massage for ankle sprains

The cross friction massage technique is used to do sports massage for ankle sprains. It helps to speed up the healing process and prevent scar tissue from developing. A sprained ankle is one of the most common types of ankle injury, particularly in sports. It results when the ankle ligaments stretch or even tear. Most often, an ankle sprain is caused by the ankle turning under so that the sole of foot is facing inwards, injuring the ligaments that are on the outside of the ankle. More rarely, the ankle will roll the other way and injure the ligaments on the inside of the ankle. Cross friction massage applied to the injured ligaments after the acute phase will help to prevent scar tissue from forming. This will now be done about five days after the ankle is sprained.

Instructions

1. Wait at least 48 to 72 hours before you begin any massage, which should only be done in the sub-acute and acute stage.

2. Ensure that there are no contraindications such as a broken bone, open wound, skin infections, tendon ruptures, chilblains and the like. If any, you must not perform the massage.

3. Sit the person with the ankle sprain in a comfortable position. Stretch out the foot with the sprained ankle, so that the ligaments are in a stretched position.

4. Apply a deep, direct pressure on the ligament using a single finger. Begin the massage at a point that is slightly away from the sprained area, and then work your way gradually towards it. Massage deeply back and forth ACROSS the ligament, not along its length. You should feel the ligament under the skin.

5. Slowly begin to massage even deeper, but within the limits of bearable pain. Continue the massage for five to ten minutes. Tape the ankle or use an ankle support to support it.

6. Massage the ankle with the same technique every other day, not every day. After this deep-massage technique, the sprained ankle will need some time to recover. If the pain or swelling is worse the next day, then put off the massage again.

Testing Procedures For Aids & Hiv

Human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, is a virus that attacks the immune system. The final stages of HIV are known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), when the body can no longer fight infections and there is a low t-cell count. There is no cure for HIV or AIDS though patients who discover the virus in early stages can be given therapies that can extend their lives, sometimes by many years. Since early detection is critical and the disease is highly infectious, being tested for HIV is a smart choice.

Blood Tests

The most accurate tests for HIV are made by blood. Blood tests for HIV come in several forms, one of the most common being the enzyme immunoassay or ELISA test. This type of test uses a person's serum, which is diluted and then applied to a plate containing HIV antigens. If HIV is present in the serum, it will bind with the antigens. The plate is then washed, and a secondary antibody which is chemically linked to an enzyme is applied, then washed again. A substrate for the enzyme is then applied, causing a change in color, and allowing the technician to read the results of the test. Given the nature of this type of test, results take several days to compute, but are very accurate.

Oral Tests

Oral tests use oral fluid to detect the presence of HIV antibodies. This is done in much the same manner as the ELISA test. If a positive result is obtained during the testing procedure, the oral test is then followed up with a Western blot test using the same oral fluid sample. A positive result on both test is needed for a confirmed diagnosis. This type of oral test, like a blood test, can take several days to obtain results from, particularly if a Western blot test is required.

Rapid Tests

Rapid testing is a recent development in testing procedures for HIV. Unlike ELISA tests, rapid test results can be read in about 20 minutes. There are several varieties of rapid test approved for use in the U.S. The rapid test can use either blood or oral fluid. According to the CDC, the rapid tests have roughly the same accuracy as an ELISA test, but as with other tests they must be followed up with secondary testing to confirm a positive diagnosis.

RNA Tests

RNA tests are used for early diagnosis of HIV, where antibodies to the disease may not yet be present. This type of test looks for the nucleic acid of HIV itself in the blood sample. Nucleic acid is present long before the antibodies can be produced, and it is for this reason that this test is used for early detection. A positive test result on an RNA test must also be followed up by secondary testing in order to confirm a positive diagnosis.

Home Tests

Home testing is also a relatively recent development in testing procedures for HIV. This allows patients to collect a blood sample themselves and send it to a lab for analysis. Currently, only one home collection kit is approved for use by the FDA: the Home Access HIV-1 Test System. This kit provides a sterile tool for pricking the finger to collect a blood sample, which is then placed on a specially treated card and sent to the lab. When results are ready, the patient may phone the lab. Patients are assigned a code number so results are anonymous. A positive result on a home collection test also needs to be followed up by additional testing performed by a medical professional.

The top of your desk must be open and clear, which will allow you to focus on work without distractions.

Computer

The principles of Feng Shui also apply to the computer in your office. Organizing your email and other documents is just as important as organizing actual paper documents. While the emails are not as visible when you walk into your office, they are still a burden if not dealt with. Delete any emails that are no longer needed. Create folders to organize the emails and move the appropriate emails to those folders upon receipt.

Avoid Scams On Ebay

Avoid Scams on eBay. Like any other business, eBay is not without its scams. If you are cautious, you should have no problems using eBay. Follow these steps to avoid scams on eBay.

Instructions

1. Check the member's feedback. Feedback is the best way to judge a member's reputation. Be wary of any feedback that's not very close to 100%, and read comments from people they've done business with.

2. Research the item you are bidding on. Check the picture to help judge the item's condition. Also, it should be a photo of the actual item for sale, not a marketing photo from the manufacturer's website.

3. Watch out for email spoofing or phishing. These are emails that might seem to come from eBay, but are malicious and intended to invade your privacy or infect your computer with a virus. Never click a link in an email that appears to come from eBay; navigate to the site yourself in a browser.

4. Just say no to "bid siphoning," which is when you get email trying to sell similar items at a cheaper price. These emails are frequently from con artists and will lead you to another site, where you lose protection offered by eBay.

5. You can check the reputation of people bidding on your item to check for "bid shielding," which occurs when two bidders work together to get the lower bidder's price accepted. The higher bidder will remove his bid at the last second. Bid shielders often have a history of many retracted bids.

Homeopathic Remedies For Migraines

Migraines are extraordinary headaches that often require prescription medication to prevent and relieve the pain. However, there are a few home remedies you can try to alleviate some of the symptoms. Like many of the medications used to treat these headaches, not every remedy works for every person.

Drink something caffeinated

Caffeine enhances pain relievers, which is why it is added to many medications. Caffeine by itself also constricts blood vessels, relieving one of the major causes of pain.

Get moving

A walk or other form of exercise releases endorphins that act as natural pain killers, and breaks the headache for some sufferers.

Ice down

Ice packs, wet cloths or cold showers can ease the pain of a migraines by causing the blood vessels near the surface of your scalp to contract.

Relax

Relaxation techniques, such as meditation or massage, can relieve symptoms for some, particularly the tense muscles in the neck and shoulders that accompany some migraines.

Try supplements

Research has shown that many sufferers have low levels of magnesium in their bodies, so magnesium supplements can prevent the headaches for some. Feverfew is an herbal supplement that some believe prevents migraines, but the herb has yet to show any promise in research trials.

Types Of Heart Defibrillators

Defibrillators are used to help the heart function again in an emergency. They are used by hospitals and paramedics but can also be found in public areas. Types of defibrillators include manual external, automated external and implantable.

Function

A heart defibrillator is a device that administers an electrical shock to the heart in an attempt to regain a normal sinus rhythm.

Manual External Defibrillators

Manual external defibrillators can have electrocardiogram readers to show the paramedic how much of a charge to use. These are used by trained medical professionals and can be found in ambulances and at some hospitals.

Automated External Defibrillators

Automated external defibrillators are computerized and can automatically monitor the heart and send an appropriate electric shock. It's the most advanced type of defibrillator available and requires little training to use.

Internal Cardioverter Defibrillators

Internal or implantable cardioverter defibrillators are similar to pacemakers. The device has a pulse generator and constantly monitors the heart.

Training

Although calling 911 is the first step, being able to properly use an automatic external defibrillator can increase the survival rate of a victim by 70 percent. The American Heart Association offers CPR and defibrillator training. Call (877) AHA-4CPR (242-4277) to find a local training center, or use the online resource link to find a class.

Use Nutritional Counseling To Treat Overeating

Use Nutritional Counseling to Treat Overeating

Nutritional counseling usually involves the services of a specially trained dietitian who is familiar with the treatment of eating disorders, such as compulsive overeating. Nutritional counseling seeks to educate people with eating disorders about proper attitudes and beliefs about food. This encompasses proper eating patterns, cook with an emphasis on health and nutrition, and avoid emotional, situational and social cues that can trigger overeating.

Instructions

1. Submit to a thorough physical exam before starting any sort of nutritional counseling to treat compulsive overeating. Your dietitian will need to know whether your eating disorder has created any physical conditions that may be affected by certain foods, such as ulcers or hypertension. In addition, the dietitian will need to be made aware of any food allergies or prescription medications before the proper diet plan can be designed.

2. Obtain the services of a nutritional counselor to treat your compulsive overeating disorder. Referrals can usually be made through your current doctor or physician. If you are participating in an outpatient treatment program, or if you have been hospitalized due to eating binges, a nutritional counselor or dietitian will be automatically assigned to you.

3. Have your nutritional counselor review your medical charts to help you design a plan to develop healthy eating patterns. This will usually involve educational courses that will show you shop for food, prepare it in a way that is healthy, and to develop a schedule that will maintain appropriate meal times and food portions.

4. Involve your family, friends and loved ones with the nutritional counseling. You will be unable to treat your overeating disorder if the people in your everyday life are enabling or even encouraging you to overeat. Make sure your dietitian offers all instructional materials to your family members, and persuades them to commit to your full recovery.

5. Schedule a follow-up visit with your nutritional counselor if you feel that any of your old behavioral patterns are beginning to re-emerge. A "refresher course" may help you to get back on the right track in terms of your eating habits, and may prevent a total relapse into your eating disorder.

Chiropractic Care For Slap Lesions

SLAP lesions are shoulder injuries characterized by a tear of a labrum tear. Labrum tears are usually caused by an injury. A common scenario is falling with an arm outstretched. Other causes can be simple over use. No matter how the tear occurs it results in shoulder pain. SLAP is an acronym for superior labrum from anterior to posterior.

Chiropractic Care

Initial treatment of a slap lesion will include efforts to reduce pain and swelling. This will likely icing the injury and non-prescription pain pills such as aspirin or ibuprofen. A definitive diagnosis of SLAP lesions may require an MRI.

According to Chirocommunity.com chiropractors can treat many forms of shoulder pain. Treatment will be specifically designed by the chiropractor based on the patient's injury, physical condition and their recovery goals.

If the SLAP lesion is the result of overuse, the chiropractor may address the type of motion that caused the injury. This may result in finding ways to eliminate the strain that caused the injury.

The chiropractor may also work with the patient on pain management methods such as massage, heat or ice packs, traction or strengthening exercises. Each case may have a different course of treatment.

Because pain in the shoulder can be caused by several different conditions, consultation and testing by a medical doctor to determine the exact cause of the pain is suggested.

Cure Typhoid Fever

Typhoid fever is an illness that was much more common a century ago. Since then vaccines and antibiotics have been developed that can either prevent it altogether or cure the disease in fewer than two days. These remedies are certainly a good thing, as typhoid fever is a severe illness that brings with it high fever and flu-like symptoms, including fatigue, body ache, nausea and diarrhea. Even though this disease is rare, people still fall ill to it, especially if they consume contaminated food or water that contains a bacteria called Salmonella typhi. Fortunately, if you ever contract typhoid fever, your chances of surviving are high if you undertake the following course of action.

Instructions

1. Schedule a visit with your doctor if you are experiencing the following symptoms: stomachache, headache, diarrhea, lowered appetite, bronchitis, fatigue and general aches and pains throughout your body. Additionally, one of the most distinguishing characteristics of typhoid fever is an elevated temperature of 103 degrees or more.

2. Undergo a stool test at your doctor's office. Your doctor will have you provide a stool sample so the laboratory can detect the presence of the Salmonella typhi bacteria using a stool culture. It is the most conclusive way to detect typhoid fever.

3. Adhere to your doctor's treatment plan. Typically, your doctor will have you hospitalized so you can receive antibiotic therapy. You may not respond to the first dose of antiobiotics, so your doctor will either increase the dose or administer a new antiobiotic.

4. Stay in the hospital, even if you feel better after the first few days of receiving medication. It can take up to six weeks for a patient to recover from typhoid fever.

5. Consume a liquid diet while you are in the hospital. Natural fruit juice, in particular, is a good beverage because it contains antioxidants that boost your immune system and help it fight off the disease.

6. Eat mainly fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water while you continue to recover (even after you are discharged from the hospital).

Symmetrical Vs Asymmetrical Yoga Poses

Though the body may not appear balanced, the weight distribution is equal.

Symmetry refers to equal distribution and balance, and symmetrical poses allow you to focus on your body as a whole. A person holding a symmetrical pose, such as standing with both feet on the floor, toes pointed forward, hands on hips, has the appearance of strength and stability. Asymmetry, however, does not mean "off balance." Instead, it refers to a lack of proportion between two or more parts of a whole. A person leaning in one direction may not appear symmetrical, but her weight distribution may compensate for her posture, so she may still be in balance. Asymmetrical poses cause you to focus on the muscles on one side of the body at a time. Experiment with both symmetrical and asymmetrical yoga poses, or asanas, to add variety to your yoga routine and increase awareness to your body's capabilities.

Instructions

Symmetrical Poses

1. Stand with your back straight, feet together and flat on the floor, toes and eyes forward to do Mountain pose, also called Tadasana. Lift and spread your toes and the balls of your feet while keeping your heels firmly on the floor. Engage the muscles of your legs, torso and neck and keep the top of your head pointed toward the ceiling. Press your shoulder blades back and allow your arms to hang at your sides with the palms of your hands facing forward. Hold this pose for 30 seconds. This is a basic, centering and calming symmetrical pose that is usually done prior to other standing yoga poses.

2. Sit with your legs extended and open at a 90-degree angle in front of you, keeping your kneecaps facing the ceiling to begin Upavistha Konasana, also known as Sitting pose. Touch your fingertips to the floor behind you and elongate your spine and feel a lift in your torso as you reach the crown of your head toward the ceiling. Bend forward while pressing the backs of your thighs into the floor, keeping them as stable as possible. Inhale and lengthen your spine, then exhale as you rotate your pelvis forward. Bend from your hips and walk your hands out in front of you. Repeat the sequence of inhalation and exhalation as you continue to reach forward, the goal being to touch your toes. Hold the pose for 10 to 15 breaths

3. Challenge yourself with Bridge pose. Lie on your back on a mat and slowly begin to slide your heels close to your buttocks. Bend your knees while raising your pelvis toward the ceiling. Place your hands, palms down beside your head keeping the top of your head on the mat. Arch your back to move your body into the shape of a bridge. This pose will give both sides of your body equal tension.

Asymmetrical Poses

4. Sit on your heels in the center of your mat and tuck a folded towel under the right side of your buttocks to begin Bharadvajasana, also called Seated Twist. Shift to the right, placing your right buttock on the towel and keeping your left buttock off the floor. Sit upright, face forward and place your fingertips at your sides a few inches away from your pelvis. Slowly drop your left sitting bone while pulling your shoulder blades back. Maintain your head directly over your spine but keep the muscles in the back of your neck soft. Reach behind you with your right hand and place it on the floor. Twist slowly to the right. Repeat on the other side.

5. Try Trikonasana, or Triangle pose. Place your feet about 4-feet apart and turn your right foot out 90 degrees so your toes are pointing to the right. Turn your left foot in about 20 degrees. Bend your right knee until it is directly over your heel. Your right thigh should be nearly parallel to the floor. Slowly inch the left heel backward while straightening the right leg. Stretch your arms out to your sides and bend to the right while you reach your right hand down your right leg and extend the left hand straight up toward the ceiling. Hold triangle pose for ten breaths. This pose may have the effect of building strength and steadiness, according to "Yoga Journal," while you balance the effort between your arms, legs and torso to stay even and upright. Repeat this asana on the opposite side.

6. Do Side Plank pose, also called Vasisthasana, to strengthen your arms and shoulders. Begin by getting into Plank pose -- your body should be a straight line as with the top of a pushup -- then shift your weight onto your right hand and swivel so your entire body is facing the left edge of your mat. Your right leg should be on top of your left leg. Lift your right arm perpendicular to the floor while engaging your abdominal muscles. Keep your body in a straight line. You may put your right knee on the mat with your right foot behind you to ease weight on your right wrist. Hold this pose for five breaths, then repeat on the other side.

Order Lab Tests For A Chiropractor

Chiropractors work with feeling, using their hands to manipulate pressure points and joints in your body to adjust them, straighten them out, reduce swelling from injury and release built-up fluid that surrounds joints. While a skilled chiropractor may not need to call for referral tests, if they are unsure of what to manipulate and are in danger of potentially making the condition worse, they may need to order a lab test and analyze the results before a diagnosis can be made and treatment can be applied.

Instructions

1. Have the doctor or a nurse practitioner fill out the lab request, as they will be aware of what tests and lab test you need done to better diagnose your chiropractic problem. It could range from simple blood work, to x-rays, to an MRI scanner that examines muscular and joint connections between limbs.

2. Ensure that the doctor has signed all of the appropriate boxes, then fill in your signature under any fields labeled "patient signature" so that the laboratory knows that they have both your and your doctor's consent.

3. Bring the completed order form to your local lab or clinic that will be performing the test. Explain to the receptionist that if they have any questions, they should contact the doctor on the request form, and that any and all test results will be sent to that doctor's office (or sent to you, and you will bring them to your chiropractor yourself).

Meaning Of Hyperglycemia

Hyperglycemia or diabetic ketoacidosis is a condition of the metabolism where there are unusually high levels of sugar in the blood. Blood sugar levels rise over a period of several days. If this situation is not remedied by the production of sufficient amounts of insulin, hyperglycemia sets in. Hyperglycemia is most common for diabetics although other factors may cause it. Conditions such as cystic fibrosis and submersion injury from near-drowning can also bring about hyperglycemia.

Effects

High levels of sugar occur when the body produces too much sugar and is unable to use it. This causes dieresis or increased urinary output. Dehydration can set in because of the loss of fluids and electrolytes. Swelling can occur in the brain and can induce the patient into a coma if the dehydration becomes severe enough. The other effect of the loss of electrolytes in the body is muscle impairment. This is because electrolytes maintain the levels of fluids in the body and help in the control of muscle contraction and production of energy. When a person suffers from hyperglycemia, free fatty acids increase in the body and consequently raise the levels of ketoacids in the liver. The body undergoes further breakdown when it becomes too acidic.

Symptoms

The most common symptoms of hyperglycemia are frequent urination and increased thirst. This can also be accompanied by dry skin and a dry mouth. Aches may also be felt in the body. The person may experience headaches and abdominal pain as a sign that hyperglycemia is being experienced. In more severe cases, nausea and vomiting as well as drowsiness and lethargy can be felt. Hyperglycemia can also checked through the breath of a person. This particular condition usually causes the breath to smell sweet and fruity and at the same time make breathing labored and difficult. If any of these symptoms appear, then a consultation with a licensed physician is recommended to assess whether hyperglycemia is being experienced.

Insulin Treatment

The treatment of hyperglycemia should be done over a period of several days to avoid shocking the body. There is a danger of developing hypokalemia or high levels of potassium which can lead to cerebral edema if treatment is done without the proper monitoring. Insulin is administered into the body to alleviate hyperglycemia. It is usually given along with intravenous fluids and salts to rehydrate the patient. The insulin helps in moving the sugar back into the cells and slowing down the production of sugar by the liver. It also stops fatty acids from being released.

Other Treatments

During the treatment for hyperglycemia, the fluid output of the patient is taken and carefully tested to check if the treatment is working and the metabolic activity of the body is being restored. In more severe cases of hyperglycemia, mannitol is given when the patient loses consciousness or suffers from an irregular heartbeat or seizures.

Prevention/Solution

Hyperglycemia can be prevented by monitoring the blood sugar levels and carefully following instructions on insulin injections, if needed. Proper diet and exercise are also important to prevent the occurrence of this condition. Children and teenagers are particularly prone to hyperglycemia because of their hormones and sleeping and eating patterns so additional care must be given to them. Obesity is also linked to the onset of hyperglycemia so maintaining a healthy weight is needed to avoid it.

Access A Dialysis Catheter

Sometimes due to various conditions of the kidney, it is necessary to have dialysis performed. In the procedure of dialysis, a dialysis catheter is used for the unobstructed exchange of blood through the haemodialysis machine in a satisfactory manner. The catheter is placed in a comfortable manner in the region of the affected kidney and can be kept attached to the skin's surface for weeks without any complications, however in order to prevent infection and ensure proper functioning a dialysis catheter must be handled properly.

Instructions

1. Close the caps and clamps of the catheter tightly when not in use to avoid the entrance of air bubbles into the tube.

2. Avoid disturbing the catheter tube; it may lead to the formation of kinks in the tube.

3. Handle or displace the catheter as little as possible between the dialysis sessions to avoid the formation of an obstructive clot in the tubing.

4. Avoid turning towards the side of body wherein the catheter is placed when lying down. This inflicts pressure on the tubing and can lead to sucking-in of impure blood into the body or bursting of the tube.

Get Rid Of Tons Of Fleas

Pet owners know that fleas multiply fast. But one adult female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day. So one flea can turn into thousands. It isn't difficult for a home to become overrun with fleas. If your home has become so infested that regular cleaning isn't accomplishing anything. then you need to take drastic measures by purchasing a fogger, which will get rid of tons of fleas.

Instructions

Instructions

1. Read the instructions for the fogger you purchased. Pay close attention to the fine print. Remember you're dealing with toxic fumes, so use caution. Also make sure you purchase enough foggers. Each fogger will cover a specific amount of square feet. You need to cover each room in your home.

2. Turn off all heating pilots or lighting pilots. The gases used may be highly flammable, this will help prevent a fire from occurring.

3. Find a place to take your pets and children. After you have set off the bombs, you will need to vacate the premise for at least three hours. However, three hours is just an estimate. Some foggers may suggest a longer period of time, so follow the directions for the fogger that you purchased.

4. Vacuum your home before setting off the bombs. There are dormant larvae that could live after the bombing. Vacuuming will eliminate the chance of fleas turning up again after the home treatment. After vacuuming throw away the vacuum bag in a sealed plastic bag.

5. Turn off the air intake valves on your fish tanks or aquariums. Seal the tank and turn off the tank lights. You do not want toxic gas to enter the fish tank.

6. Remove any plates, silverware, food dishes, pet dishes or anything else you use for food. You do not want your plates to have toxic residue.

7. Set off the foggers and vacate you home.

8. Air out the house as soon as the fogger is completed. Open the doors and windows before letting pets and children back into the house. You should also vacuum your house again after the fogger. Throw away the vacuum bag in a plastic sealed bag.

Lavender Plant Benefits

Sometimes called Lavandula officinalis, the flowering plant lavender originated in Africa, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and India. Herbalists utilize parts of the lavender flower and oil derived from the plant for a variety of purposes.

Function

Lavender relaxes muscle tissues and slows down your central nervous system, producing a calming effect.

Uses

Lavendar may help with hair loss, depression, insomnia, agitation, wounds, skin infections, acne and pain control, explains the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Clinical Evidence

A 1998 study conducted at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Foresterhill, Scotland, and published in the "Archives of Dermatology" found that patients suffering from hair loss or alopecia who used a topical solution containing lavender had significant improvement of symptoms when compared to those who did not use lavender. A 2006 study conducted at the Keukdong College in Chungcheongbuk-Do and published in the Korean medical journal "Taehan Kanho Hakhoe Chi" found that the use of lavender reduced symptoms of insomnia and depression in female college students.

Side Effects

Side effects from lavender are uncommon, but include nausea, vomiting, headache, and chills, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Considerations

Pregnant women should not use lavender as a form of medicine. Because of its effects on the central nervous system, you should avoid using lavender with alcohol, barbiturates, narcotic pain relievers, sedatives and anti-anxiety medications, warns the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Lasik Postsurgery Problems

LASIK surgery is a noninvasive procedure that is used to correct vision, sometimes eliminating a patient's need to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, the LASIK procedure can result in short- and long-term difficulties.

What is LASIK Surgery?

LASIK, which stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a noninvasive procedure that alters the shape of the cornea to permit a patient with certain vision impairments to see better. The procedure involves using a laser device to cut a flap in the cornea. The flap is revealed to expose the midsection of the patient's cornea (stroma). A laser is used to alter the stroma, and the flap is carefully replaced over the eye.

Who Is a Candidate for LASIK?

Patients who suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia are candidates for LASIK surgery. Patients with nearsighted vision impairment can see objects up close, but objects that are in the distance will appear blurry. Those who are farsighted see distances clearly but have near vision impairments. Astigmatism results in a disruption in both near and far vision. Presbyopia is an age-related condition that affects a patient's ability to focus on objects that are close by.

Difficulties Immediately Following LASIK Surgery

Patients will most likely experience burning, itching and discomfort in the eyes immediately following LASIK surgery. The eyes may be bloodshot and watery, and vision may be blurry. Light sensitivity, glare and "halos" around light sources, such as lamps and streetlights, may also occur. Lubricating eye drops and ointments are used to aid in the healing process and prevent excessive discomfort, although sometimes a pain reliever may be necessary. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that patients who have LASIK take three days off from work after the procedure.

LASIK: The First Few Months

Additional difficulties with the eyes and vision may occur as a result of LASIK four weeks to six months following the procedure. A patient may continue to experience glare, halos and double-vision, or a noted reduction in night vision. Vision can fluctuate for up to six months. Dry eyes during this period are also common, and a doctor may recommend continued use of lubricating drops or gels. Patients who experience extremely dry eyes may consider a procedure to have plugs placed in the tear ducts to keep tears from draining from the eyes' surface. Sometimes, the corneal flap will become infected or grow back abnormally.

Long-term Difficulties With LASIK Surgery

In some cases, a patient may experience loss of vision following LASIK that cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or additional surgery. Glare, halos and reduced night vision may persist, and some patients will develop permanently dry eyes that require therapeutic use of lubricating eye drops or gels. LASIK surgery can result in an overcorrection or undercorrection of the patient's vision, making use of corrective lenses necessary. The FDA warns that patients with serious vision impairments may not experience optimal results with LASIK surgery and recommends discussing potential outcomes with one's physician before making the decision to have the procedure done.

Cure Nail Fungus

Cure Nail Fungus

One of the joys of warm weather is being able to wear sandals outdoors; unless of course you're one of the 20 percent of Americans afflicted with toenail fungus. Toenails infected by fungi or yeast appear crusted, thickened and yellow. Toenails are much more commonly affected than fingernails with the first and fifth toenails most frequently involved. Curing nail fungus is extremely difficult because the infection involves the entire nail plate as well the surrounding tissue. So how do you try to cure nail fungus?

Instructions

1. Take oral anti-fungal medication to cure nail fungus. When oral anti-fungal medication is taken for 12 weeks it can be incorporated into the infected nail plate for maximum efficacy.

2. Consider removal of the infected nail plate in combination with taking oral medication. Since toenail removal is both inconvenient and painful this approach is considered when only one nail plate is involved.

3. Try the anti-fungal nail lacquer Penlac to cure nail fungus. It needs to be applied to the affected nails and the surrounding skin nightly and washed off weekly.

4. Try using topical anti-fungal creams and lotions such as Mentax and Lotrimin Ultra to cure nail fungus. They have shown modest efficacy against toenail fungi though they have limited ability to penetrate nail plates.

5. Skip the anecdotal folk and homeopathic remedies that have been proposed to cure nail fungus over the years. Some of the more popular therapies include Australian tea tree oil, Vicks vapor rub, Listerine soaks and topical grapefruit seed extract. None have ever been shown to be better than placebo and all usually require a full year of daily therapy.

6. Make sure you don't get reinfected if you're fortunate enough to cure your nail fungus with medical treatments. Change your socks daily and don't share them with others. Avoid walking barefoot at pools or in communal shower areas.

Signs Of Hypoglycemia In Newborns

Signs of Hypoglycemia in Newborns

Hypoglycemia is a condition that is characterized by low blood sugar levels. While uncommon in newborn infants, it occasionally does occur due to the excess insulin in a mother's bloodstream brought about by a diabetic condition. Symptoms of low blood sugar may be confused with other conditions, but testing for hypoglycemia in newborns is easily accomplished with a blood test.

Moro Reflex

The Moro reflex is also known as the "startle reflex." This reflex causes infants to throw their arms and legs out from their bodies when they hear a loud noise. The Moro reflex tends to be exaggerated in newborn infants with low blood sugar and, therefore, can be considered a sign of hypoglycemia.

Feeding

Newborns with hypoglycemia may also have feeding problems. These infants may have a weak ability to suckle and have trouble nursing. Newborn babies with low blood sugar may even refuse to eat altogether. When blood sugar levels in a newborn are extremely low, and the baby refuses to nurse, glucose may be administered through an IV.

Temperature

Low blood sugar levels in a newborn may also be evident in the infant's body temperature. These infants may have trouble regulating their own body temperatures, as evidenced by wild temperature fluctuations. Newborns with hypoglycemia are prone to extremely low body temperatures, also known as hypothermia.

Energy

A newborn infant with hypoglycemia will typically exhibit lethargy. Hypotonia is a lack of muscle strength and can also be a symptom of hypoglycemia in a newborn. Conversely, jitteriness, irritability and tremors can also signal the presence of low blood sugar in an infant.

Other Symptoms

Other symptoms that may indicate low blood sugar include unhealthy color, breathing and crying. A newborn with hypoglycemia may have an unusually high-pitched cry or may even be blue-tinged. Low blood sugar can also cause the newborn to experience apnea, which is when the infant stops breathing periodically, as well as tachypnea, when the infant breathes extremely rapidly.

The Healing Properties Of Green Amethyst

Green amethyst, also known as prasiolite or vermarine, should be called "greened" amethyst. It begins as a purple amethyst, which is mined in Brazil and to a lesser extent in Arizona. When heat treated, iron in the stone causes it to turn a pale to medium green. Rarely, the green color comes from the natural heat of a volcano but normally it is created artificially in an oven or kiln. The green amethyst gets its healing properties from its ability to synthesize energy between the upper and lower parts of the body, linking mind, body and spirit.

Physical Healing

According to "The Book of Stones" by Simmons and Ahsian, prasiolite supports the heart and gastrointesinal tract. Green amethyst aids digestion by allowing the body to efficiently use the nutrients it takes in and to regulate stomach acid. Crystalsandjewelry.com adds that green amethyst cleanses the body of a variety of toxins, including tumors. Green amethyst heals by clearing all chakras of blocked energy, allowing the body to resume its natural state of well-being.

Emotional Healing

Green amethyst strengthens the mind, emotions and will. The stone carries an energetic link between the heart and crown chakras. This allows for self-acceptance and self love. These properties promote emotional healing through building confidence and letting go of past emotional wounds. The fire that causes the green color is also a symbolic fire that burns in the will of humans through the emotional solar plexus. Green amethyst strengthens that will, allowing emotional expression.

Spiritual Healing

Green amethyst facilitates inner vision and opening of the heart to love, the language of spirit. The versatile green amethyst helps to ground the ungrounded. For those who are too occupied with earthly matters, the crystal helps open their hearts to spirit. The green amethyst brings the spiritual world into the every day.

Healing the Earth

Green amethyst facilitates the energetic link of crown and heart chakras, opening the heart to the energy of the earth. The stone simultaneously links to higher spiritual realms, which makes a human wearing or carrying green amethyst a powerful force of the earth's healing energy. According to "The Book of Stones" it is akin to being a "lightning rod of healing energy for the Earth."

Healing Each Other

Although green amethyst is a crystal that supports self-reliance and will, it also allows us to open our hearts to see ourselves as parts of a whole. We are then able to look past human flaws in ourselves and others to see the Divine in our fellow souls.

Make An Orgone Blanket

In the 1930's psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich coined the term "orgone energy" to describe a universal life source. It was believed that orgone energy could be cultivated to do a variety of things from causing rain to curing ailments. Many devices were designed to harness orgone energy, including the orgone blanket that in theory would accumulate "life energy." This energy radiates throughout the body to increase relaxation and to improve health issues, such as pain, immune deficiencies and stress. Increased interest in natural healing has renewed societal interest in orgone energy.

Instructions

1. Place a sheet of plain white cotton fabric on a table cut to the desired size of your personal orgone blanket. Smooth the material with your hand to remove wrinkles and creases. Place a layer of steel wool on| top of the cotton fabric.

2. Make sure the layer of steel wool is thick enough so that you cannot see the cotton fabric beneath the steel wool. Place a layer of sheep's wool or cotton batting on top of the steel wool. Layer the sheep's wool or the cotton batting over the steel wool until you cannot see the steel wool beneath.

3. Alternate layers of sheep's wool and steel wool until the blanket is the desired thickness. Cover the last layer of sheep's wool with the dark green acrylic felt. Hand stitch along the edges of the blanket.
