Advocates of colloidal silver claim this miracle elixir can cure anything from the common cold to more serious problems, such as cancer. This liquid is made with a colloidal-silver generator that sends volts, usually between 25 volts and 30 volts, through silver wire, which is then dispersed into distilled water, thus creating a very diluted form of liquid silver. Since the generator does most of the work, making a colloidal silver solution is about as easy as steeping a bag of tea in hot water.
Instructions
1. Fill a glass with 8 oz of distilled water. The glass must be taller than the length of the silver wires of the generator.
2. Submerge the silver wires in the distilled water. Make sure the wires are spaced at least 1 inch apart from each other.
3. Turn on the generator. Depending on your generator, the location of the power switch may differ. Also, electric-powered generators must be plugged into an electrical outlet before you can turn it on.
4. Leave the wires in the water until small bubbles begin to form on the sides of the glass, usually between 20 and 30 minutes.
5. Turn off the generator and remove the wires. The colloidal silver solution can now be taken in your desired dose.

Heart disease could very well be considered America's public health enemy number one, with a fatality rate outranking that of cancer. Those who do survive any of the various maladies that constitute as heart disease often find themselves dealing with some degree of debilitation. This can be especially true for victims of stroke, who often suffer sufficient damage that decreases mobility, resulting in a high degree of loss in independence and daily living. Physical therapy may be the only way many patients can regain lost basic living skills.
Stroke Vesus Myocardial Infarction
Heart disease is actually an umbrella term for the many types of diseases that negatively affect the cardiovascular system. The two most common occurrences of the disease are heart attacks and stroke. Myocardial infarctions, or heart attacks, occur as a result of a blockage of blood supply to or from the heart and the rest of the body. A stroke is very similar, the difference being the blockage inhibits blood flow to all or certain parts of the brain.
The Role of Physical Therapy in Stroke Rehab
The extent and nature of the damage is entirely dependent on what part of the brain was affected. Paralysis and motor skill inhibition, hyposensitivity, poor communication skills, cognitive deficiencies and emotional disorders are all common among stroke patients. Upon physician's clearance, the goal of the physical therapy department (sometimes a joint effort with occupational therapy) is to utilize several of the methods at their disposal in order to circumvent the patient's disability and allow them some degree of living independence.
The Goal of Physical Therapy
Physical therapy for the stroke patient involves working towards muscle coordination and re-introducing basic motor skills, two areas in which many stroke patients are deficient. The idea is to teach the victim new ways of performing basic daily activities, such as teeth brushing, grooming, dressing and self-feeding. Physical therapy stresses getting the patient to actively use the negatively affected arms and legs to achieve these tasks. This goal can be achieved in a variety of ways, such as disallowing use of the working appendages to "force" the patient to engage the affected limb(s).
Common Methods
Patient exercise routines can be performed using any one or combination of physical therapy-related equipment. For those with gait (walking style) issues, the gait belt, a harness guided by the therapist, is often used to maintain delicate stability. Often, exercises can be performed in the buoyancy of a water pool, known as hydrotherapy, to allow a formerly bedridden patient to acclimate to his own body weight. Resistance exercise versus gravity is often introduced to allow the patient to regain muscle strength and endurance.
Outlook
Extensive studies have shown that physical therapy is beneficial to stroke patients and highly successful at allowing them to achieve some level of functional independence. According to the American Heart Association, less than 14 percent of rehabilitated stroke victims return to their pre-incident level of function, while it is estimated that nearly 50 percent need additional assistance, despite medically successful physical therapy sessions. Currently, physical therapy has gravitated to more leisurely-based activities to increase a patient's enjoyment, thus giving them more incentive to complete their therapy sessions.
Chinese women seem to keep nearly flawless skin as they age. Their emphasis on keeping skin healthy has led to women and men looking years younger than their real age. Through organic moisturizing, diet and maintaining a healthy liver, the Chinese remain looking young and healthy even into their advanced years. With the use of herbs such as wolfberry and American ginseng, the skin as well as overall health can benefit. Chinese skin care does have its limitations, because certain herbs pose health risks to people with diabetes.
Significance
The Chinese emphasize skin care, but not primarily for beauty. The skin is the largest organ in the body, so keeping it healthy can lead to greater overall health, according to Chinese medicine. In addition to being the largest body organ, the Chinese consider the skin the most vital because it is the first line of defense against illness and disease.
Theories/Speculation
According to Chinese medicine, the skin is directly correlated to the amount of heat in the blood. It is how we control this heat that has a direct effect on the health of the skin. For example, they believe that eating hot, spicy foods adds further heat to the blood. This has a negative effect on the skin and can cause acne and dry skin. Occasionally indulging in these foods is fine, but overuse can create problems. A herb that is used in Chinese medicine for skin care is wolfberry. It helps nourish the liquids in the liver, kidneys and blood. Keeping these organs and the blood nourished and healthy has a positive impact on the skin as well as overall health.
Considerations
To practice Chinese skin-care methods, one should first detoxify and care for the liver. The liver impacts every other organ in the body including the skin. To accomplish this, a person simply needs to eat a well-balanced diet. A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables is very good for the liver. Greasy and deep-fried foods should be strictly limited. Adequate rest is also essential. Staying active for too long means the liver also remains active. Without adequate rest, the liver cannot remove toxins from the blood.
Warning
According to your-doctor.com, there are a few dangers associated with Chinese skin care. Diabetics should be extra cautious before taking any Chinese herbs. Gyburide and phenformin are in several of these herbs, but are also ingredients in some prescription diabetes medicines. Anyone taking medication for diabetes along with these herbs could damage her health. Consult your doctor before taking any Chinese herbal remedies.
Effects
Using a Chinese skin-care regimen can have several positive effects beyond improving the appearance of the skin. For example, American ginseng is one of the herbs that benefits the skin but may also help with physical stamina, memory retention, nausea and other effects of aging.

According to the American Dental Association, periodontal disease is a serious infection that strikes just under the gum line in the sulcus (thin V-shaped gap between the tooth and gums). In addition to possible tooth loss, the Mayo Clinic says advanced cases of periodontal disease (periodontitis) can increase the risk of heart attack. Some point to a connection between periodontal disease and oral cancer.
Gingivitis & Periodontitis
The two primary stages of periodontal disease are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is a less serious condition that is limited to the gums. Left untreated, gingivitis can turn into a potentially more harmful type of periodontal disease called periodontitis. Treatment for periodontal disease varies, depending on how far it has advanced. Good oral hygiene methods can prevent the condition from worsening.
Periodontal Disease Risk Factors
Several things contribute to the development of periodontal disease. Cancer drugs, oral contraceptives, steroids and systemic diseases, such as diabetes, can make you more prone to periodontal disease. Old fillings that have worn down and bridges that don't fit correctly also can increase your risk.
Signs of Periodontal Disease
The American Hygienists Dental Association says about 80 percent of adults in the U.S. have some type of periodontal disease, but most of them are unaware they have it. Over time, signs of periodontal disease can include red, swollen and tender gums that bleed easily. Your gums may not appear as tightly bonded to your teeth and permanent teeth may be loose. You may also have bad breath.
Oral Cancer Connection
The Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey discovered a connection between periodontal disease and cancer. Study participants were broken into two groups. Researchers determined that the group with periodontal disease was four times more likely to have oral cancer than the group without the disease. The study does not establish unequivocal proof that periodontal disease causes cancers of the mouth.
Periodontal Disease & Tounge Cancer
The ADA says recent research indicates the more bone deterioration that results from periodontal disease, the higher the chance of contracting tongue cancer.
Researchers at State University of New York at Buffalo and Roswell Park Cancer Institute determined that the risk of tongue cancer due to persistent periodontal disease was more than five times higher with every millimeter of alveolar (bony structure that supports the teeth) bone loss.
The findings, in a study of men only, did not take into account factors such as smoking status and age. The study found that tooth decay, fillings, crowns and root canals did not substantially increase the risk of tongue cancer.
Once you've had (and survived!) that first heart attack, this can serve as the wake-up call you need that will enable you to save your own life. You know for a fact, at this point, that if you do not make some important lifestyle changes, you are almost certain to have another heart attack, and you may not be so lucky the second time around. Now that you have all the evidence you need that this is indeed a matter of life or death, you should finally have the motivation to lead a healthier life. If you can manage to do so, you'll not only reduce the likelihood of your suffering another heart attack,, but you'll also benefit from looking and feeling much better than you did before you had the first one.
Instructions
1. Stop smoking. Seriously, smoking is one of the leading causes of heart disease. Get a nicotine patch, try hypnosis, do whatever it takes. Perhaps the realization that every cigarette you smoke puts you that much closer to heart attack No. 2 will help you to finally kick the habit.
2. Get some exercise. Start out slowly, just try walking for 10-15 minutes a day if you've been pretty sedentary to date. Ask your doctor's advice if you intend to step up the pace and start running, bicycling, working out at a gym, or anything that might be strenouos. Although you want all of the health benefits that exercise brings, you don't want to choose any activity that might put a strain on your weakened heart.
3. Eat your fruits and veggies. While not a week goes by that some new fruit or vegetable is being touted as a new superfood that can cure all ills, the truth is that all fruits and vegetables have their own particular benefits, so you should try to eat as wide a selection as possible.
4. Remember the old ryhme, "beans, beans, they're good for your heart..." (okay, don't remember the whole rhyme, unless you want a good snicker like the one you had when you first heard it in third grade). The thing is, beans and legumes really are good for your heart, as they provide necessary folic acid as well as being a good source of the soluble fiber that helps to bind up cholesterol. So do "eat your beans at every meal".
5. Add a few servings of oily fish such as trout, salmon or herring to your diet every week. These types of fish are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are well known for promoting cardiac health.
6. Cut out (or at least cut down on) saturated and trans fats, both of which can lower your good (HDL) cholesterol levels and raise your bad (LDL) ones. The American Heart Association recommends that no more than 1percent of your daily calories (so 20 calories for a 2000 calorie diet) come from trans fats, and no more than 7 percent (so 140 calories for that same 2000 calorie diet) from saturated fats.
7. Take a daily dose of aspirin if your doctor recommends you do so. Daily use of aspirin has proven in numerous clinical trials to be very effective in preventing recurrence of heart attacks.

Using a sauna is one way to detoxify your body. When you use a sauna, your body creates an artificial fever, purging toxins, and creating white blood cells to fight off bacteria and illness. Your skin cleanses as your pores open and release trapped dirt and oil. Folk medicine used sweat therapy to treat illnesses, and many cultures still use them today.
Instructions
1. Clean and prepare the sauna for use. With the sauna door open and turned off, wipe down the sauna with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Turn the sauna on and wait for the sauna to heat up, approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
2. Lay a towel down on the sauna bench and roll another one to use as a pillow. The sauna bench gets hot, so be sure to use a body-length towel on the bench so your skin doesn't burn. Use a pillow or another towel to cushion your head from the hard wooden bench.
3. Prepare a mixture of essential oils for aromatherapy. Add 4 to 6 drops of essential oil to a liter of water, and pour this mixture over the rocks. Do not apply pure essential oil directly on the rocks without diluting with water.
4. Apply a moisturizing treatment to rough skin patches. Apply moisturizer that does not contain mineral oil, petroleum, or glycerin because those ingredients trap moisture and prevent moisture loss. You need to lose moisture through your perspiration in order for your body to remove toxins, so use a body oil such as avocado or olive oil.
5. Sit in sauna for 10 to 20 minutes. For beginners, only 10 minutes at first until you learn how your body reacts to the sauna sensation. Inhale and exhale through your mouth, taking deep breaths. Your lungs are working harder to expel toxins as your body temperature rises and demands more oxygen.
6. Step out of the sauna and drink water. Replace water lost through perspiration. Water also helps facilitate toxin removal through your digestive system. Do not drink too much water, more than a liter during a break session, in order to prevent dizziness from a full stomach.
7. Take a cold shower. This is a popular method used by advanced sauna users to improve circulation in the capillaries and tightens muscles. Perspiration eventually evaporates, but taking a shower removes salty components and other debris on your skin. To balance your ecosystem, your cool off period should equal the same amount of time in the sauna, so you should break for 20 minutes if you spent 20 minutes in the sauna.

The prostate gland is below the bladder in men and grows continuously in spurts. It becomes troublesome for most men at older ages. Prostate enlargement is natural with age progression. But it causes health problems related to the kidneys, urinary tract and bladder. Various treatments are available for men with painful prostate enlargement. Natural remedies are useful for this condition. Cures from the oriental region have been effective.
Oriental Cures
The Chinese treatment focuses on balancing the good and bad energies. The yin (fire/ spleen) and qi (air/ lung) deficiencies are treated with appropriate herbs.
Herbs used to treat prostate enlargement are rehmannia, alisma, hoelen and dioscorea. The main function of these herbs is to assist digestion. They aid better in the functioning of kidneys.
Chinese Formulas
A concoction made from these ingredients aids in prostate enlargement relief: Manshurian aristolochia stem, plantago seed, rhubarb, knotgrass, diathus, phellodendron bark, lonicera flower, gardenia fruit, fresh rehmannia root, Yedo violet and licorice root. About 250 ml of soup from this mixture taken daily helps ease prostate problems.
Herbs
The saw palmetto herb acts on the enlarged prostate gland to reduce its size. These herbs relieve many painful symptoms caused by enlarged prostate: Rabdosia rubescens, Oldenlandia herb, Isatis leaf, Scutellaria root, Peony tree bark, Paris rhizome, Licorice root, Ox Knee root, Zedoary rhizome, Lindera root, Saw Palmetto berry, Amber and Ganoderma lucidum.
Zinc
Zinc deficiency causes prostate enlargement. Intake of zinc increases immunity. Men should take the recommended 15 mg zinc dosage daily. Natural foods such as meat and dairy products are ideal. Supplements should be taken if needed.
Kegels
Contracting and releasing muscles around the scrotum and anus is a form of exercise called Kegels. Men with an enlarged prostate should not be at a stagnant posture for long periods of time. Movement and Kegel exercises help increase blood circulation.
Antioxidants
Tomatoes have lycopene and act as antioxidants. This decreases cancer risks. This natural food should be consumed daily.
Tips
Men with enlarged prostates should utilize herbs for cure. If the prostate keeps increasing in size, and becomes more painful, a medical treatment should be obtained. Sometimes surgery is required to relieve complications by enlarged prostate.
Many men feel uncomfortable in disclosing prostate problems. Health should never be compromised upon for any reason. Relief and cure should be sought in time. Any abnormal function or growth in the body grows cancerous when left unchecked. Prostate cancer can be avoided by following remedial steps and consulting the doctor in time.
Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) staph infections are persistent, uncomfortable and potentially deadly if untreated. Antibiotics can be ineffective for some patients; in such cases, alternative remedies are followed. MRSA can be treated naturally. There is no guarantee that natural treatments are effective, but they do help to heal persistent MRSA strains. Use home remedies in unison with conventional treatments to successfully combat the infection.
Instructions
Natural Treatments for MRSA
1. See a doctor immediately---never self-treat or self-diagnose an MRSA infection, and follow all treatments as prescribed. MRSA is a dangerous and life-threatening infection, and cannot be ignored or treated without a doctor's advice.
2. Take a daily acidophilus supplement. Probiotics like acidophilus strengthen immunity by introducing "good" bacteria to the body. They also combat uncomfortable gastrointestinal side effects associated with vancomycin, the antibiotic commonly prescribed for MRSA.
3. Clean infected areas daily with hot water and soap to fight the infection and prevent it from spreading.
4. Rub tea tree essential oil, a natural astringent, around the area of the infection after thoroughly washing. Avoid putting the oil directly on an open wound, as this may cause severe pain.
5. Dry the area completely, and use a silver patch or bandage to cover the infection site. Silver patches and bandages are highly effective in combating skin infections. Change the bandage daily after cleaning.
6. Take a garlic supplement daily to boost resistance to MRSA and other staph infections. Garlic is not a cure, but the increased resistance that it provides helps the body fight infections.
7. Continue using the treatment plan for at least 1 week after symptoms are alleviated and your doctor is satisfied that the infection is cured. Take all prescribed medications for the recommended period of time, even if symptoms improve, to prevent reinfection.
Place TENS pads over a sore area to reduce joint pain.
TENS, or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator, is a device used to decrease either chronic or acute pain. The electrical stimulation is thought to interrupt pain signals traveling to the brain, resulting in less pain felt by the user. Pad placement and machine use in general depends on the type and location of the pain you're experiencing. Not everyone can use a TENS machine, and it must be prescribed by a medical professional, so always check with your health care provider before using the machine.
Instructions
1. Dry the skin before pad application. The pads will not stick to wet or injured skin.
2. Place the pads directly over the painful site for muscle or joint pain. Muscle pain can include spasms, soreness or even sharp stabbing sensations. The same is true for joints that hurt from arthritis or inflammation. However, do not place the pads on top of an area where there's radiating pain from an injured nerve.
3. Place the pads to surround nerve or post-surgery pain. Place the pads on either side of the painful area. So after a knee surgery, for example, place two pads above the kneecap and site of incision and two pads below; or place pads on the inside of the kneecap and on the outside. The idea is to "capture" the pain with the pads so the electric stimulation penetrates the correct location.
4. Place the pads on the upper and lower back during labor pains. Some women use a TENS unit during labor pains to decrease pain intensity. The pads go on your back during labor. Place two high on the back between the shoulder blades -- one pad on the left side of the spine and one on the right -- then two pads low on the back, above the buttocks region, on either side of the spine.

If you suffer from psoriasis, you are not alone. More than 7.5 million Americans struggle with this painful and embarrassing condition, with as many as 250,000 new cases being diagnosed each year, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF).
What causes this painful condition? Psoriasis is an auto-immune response in which the immune system actually begins to attack the body, resulting in inflammation and a type of plague buildup on the skin. Although rarely disabling and never contagious, psoriasis can be very difficult to treat and cure. Of course the first step to treating it is to understand what your particular triggers are, so you can prevent an outbreak in the first place.
Instructions
Alleviating Psoriasis Symptoms
1. Know your triggers. Here are some common symptoms and treatments. For stress, incorporating a variety of relaxation and stress reduction techniques into your day can often help to clear up symptoms faster than using traditional medications alone. If you experience an injury to the skin, immediate treatment is essential to get rid of it quickly. For some people, keeping their allergies under control can drastically reduce or even eliminate psoriasis symptoms. Any type of strep infection and dry weather conditions also promote psoriasis.
2. Use sunlight and water for treatment. More than 80 percent of patients who are exposed to regular doses of sunlight report an improvement or even clearing of their psoriasis is less than one week, when used in conjunction with a variety of water therapies to soften and treat lesions. There are two main types of sun and water treatments used for psoriasis sufferers. Balneotherapy is common in the spas of Europe and Asia. This water-based treatment uses the water from natural thermal springs, hot springs, mineral and sea waters to treat the skin condition. Climatotherapy is a combination of sunlight and water therapy, Climatotherapy uses the waters found in specific regions of the world to treat psoriasis. One of the most common waters used in this treatment is taken from the Dead Sea, which contains a high salt and mineral content that can be very soothing and therapeutic to damaged skin.
3. Seek homeopathic remedies. While there is little scientific evidence to suggest that treating psoriasis homepathically can do much good, those who suffer with its symptoms are quick to offer these remedies for relief and a one-week cure. Since psoriasis is an immune system response, it makes sense that acupuncture and accupressure could both be used to balance the body's energies and boost the immune system to relieve symptoms right away. Meditation is used as a way to calm stress and an overactive immune system. It has been deemed helpful in many psoriasis patients who find that stress is the main trigger for their discomfort. Herbal therapy has also been effective. There are many different types of herbs that can be used to sooth the skin. The most common used to calm psoriasis outbreaks within a week include andiroba, bittersweet, burdock, dandelion, copaiba and many more. Coal tar is another remedy to consider. Before corticosteroids were found to be helpful in treating skin disorders, coal tar was used to ease the itch and inflammation of psoriasis. One of its main benefits is the tar's ability to actually interfere with DNA ,thus slowing down skin cell growth, which eventually thins the skin's psoriatic plaques.
4. Go gluten-free. One of the most promising (and quick) treatments for psoriasis is a going on a gluten-free diet. It seems that some people who eat wheat, rye, and other gluten containing foods experience an eruption of dermatitis herpetiformis, which can cause psoriasis. Once the gluten is excreted from the body, the Psoriasis disappears.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) says primary liver cancer is a malignancy that develops in the tissues of the liver. It is different from metastatic liver cancer, which starts in another organ and spreads to the liver. The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenbaum Cancer Center (UMGCC) says hepatocellular carcinoma is the most prevalent type of primary liver cancer. It makes up 84 percent of liver cancer cases. There are several potential complications associated with cancer of the liver.
Risks
While it isn't always understood why someone gets primary liver cancer, the NCI says there are several possible risk factors. They include infection with the hepatitis B or C (HBV & HCV) virus and heavy consumption of alcohol (two or more drinks per day for many years).
The American Liver Foundations says more than 80 percent of liver cancer cases are linked to cirrhosis (a serious disease that interferes with normal liver function). The NCI states that studies have shown that diabetes and obesity may also place a person at a higher risk for liver cancer.
Symptoms
In its early stages, liver cancer may not have any telltale signs or symptoms. As the disease progresses common symptoms include pain in the upper right side of the abdomen, abdominal bloating and a lump or heavy feeling in the upper abdomen. Other frequent symptoms include weakness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes, light-colored stools and dark urine.
Liver Biopsy
If your doctor detects a lump on an X-ray during screening for liver cancer, he or she may insert a needle into the abdomen to remove a small amount of tissue from the liver (a biopsy). The sample tissue will be examined under a microscope to see if any cancer cells exist.
The NCI states problems associated with liver biopsies are rare and usually occur within a few hours following the procedure. Among the possible complications are hemorrhage and bile peritonitis (an inflammation of the membrane that lines the inside of the abdomen and all of the internal organs). Death due to a liver biopsy is extremely rare.
Treatment
Treatment for primary liver cancer will depend on the site and location of the tumor(s), how effectively your liver is currently functioning, whether you have also been diagnosed with cirrhosis and whether the cancer has spread beyond the liver.
According to the NCI, if hepatocellular carcinoma is diagnosed early, surgery or a liver transplant can treat small or slow-growing tumors. Unfortunately, few cases are caught in the early stages. An oral medicine that blocks tumor growth (Sorafenib toslate, or brand name Nexavar) has been approved for patients with late stage hepatocellular carcinoma.
Complications
The NCI says complications associated with hepatocellular carcinoma are gastrointestinal bleeding and liver failure. It is also likely to spread outside of the liver. According to the Mayo Clinic, the advanced stage in which liver cancer is frequently diagnosed can render conventional chemotherapy ineffective. And in many patients, liver cancer tends to come back after surgery.
Secondary Conditions
Treatment of liver cancer can be difficult because in addition to the cancer itself, many patients have liver damage from preexisting conditions such as hepatitis and/or cirrhosis. According to the Stanford School of Medicine, the livers of some patients are so dysfunctional that they are more apt to die from liver failure than from the cancer itself. A doctor and patient must carefully weigh the potential benefits of various treatment options against the risk of liver failure.
Many different problems can occur with your teeth to cause you to seek out treatment from a dentist. Problems that are related to a specific tooth may be the result of tooth decay. If the decay is limited to your tooth and does not extend into the root, your dentist may opt to fill it or place a dental cap over the tooth. While it may sound scary, getting dental caps is an easy and often pain-free procedure. Read on to learn get dental caps.
Instructions
1. First it is important that you talk about dental caps with your dentist. Often when you have tooth decay that only affects your actual tooth and not the root you have a variety of options. For example, rather than getting dental caps you could instead simply have the cavity filled. However, you may find that a dental cap will protect your tooth better for a longer period of time. The pros and cons are something you should discuss beforehand.
2. If you do decide to get dental caps over one or more of your teeth, the procedure will require two appointments with your dentist. Most dental offices will allow you to schedule them at the same time to ensure that your second appointment occurs within approximately two weeks after the first appointment.
3. During the first appointment the dentist will take a mold of your tooth. This mold will be sent to a special lab that makes dental caps, and they will use your mold to make the cap specific to your tooth shape and size. Depending upon the exact reason for getting a dental cap, the dentist may need to prepare your tooth and place a temporary cap on it. For example, tooth decay may require a filling to be put in place to prevent further decay once the cap has been put on, whereas a chipped tooth may need filed down to reduce its jagged edges.
4. The second appointment will involved placement of your permanent dental cap. The dentist will take the time to ensure that the dental cap fits perfectly in your mouth over your tooth. This will involve making sure your bite is still correct while also ensuring you can still floss between the dental cap and the teeth around it. Once he or she has made sure it fits correctly they will cement it in place.

The effects of alcohol abuse on the body can be far-reaching, from liver and pancreas to brain damage. Once you decide to stop drinking, you may be able to reverse some of the damage you've created if you follow the right steps.
Instructions
1. Practice long-term sobriety. According to a Stanford University survey, the longer alcoholics remained sober, the better their cognitive functions became. This is a first step to repairing the brain damage you may have suffered from years of alcohol abuse.
2. Take milk thistle seeds. These are usually available as an extract and have been shown to help improve and repair liver functions. Although not guaranteed to work for everyone, taking them may help.
3. Start a workout regime. As the body cleanses toxins from your system through the pores, which occurs with any level of sweating, your body is better able to oxygenate, which in turn helps your overall system repair itself.
4. Practice a healthy diet. By losing weight and taking in extra vitamins, you will begin to see an improvement in your overall health. Low-fat diets with plenty of whole grains and fruits and vegetables can help you lose weight, lessening the stress on your body. As you have less stress, your body can work on repairing the damage from alcohol abuse. Also recommended is taking antioxidants from natural sources, such as Vitamin D-heavy foods.

Goat milk is a digestible substance for infants. Some parents choose to use it as a substitute for cow milk, especially in the case of milk allergies. In many countries, goats' milk is preferred over cows' milk. Many families choose to have a goat at home to fulfill their milk needs, since goats require less feed than cows.
Instructions
1. Boil the goat milk. Goats' milk is susceptible to bacterial infection, which may be passed to your infant. If you choose to feed your infant goat milk, you should make sure that you boil it yourself to reduce the risk of passing the bacterial infection to your child.
2. Add water to the goat milk. Make it half milk and half water, especially if your infant is just beginning to consume goats' milk. This reduces the strength and may ease the transition for your child to goats' milk. According to the New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeder's Association, the suggested quantity is approximately 150 to 170 ml per kilo of body weight, or 2/3 cup per 2.2 pounds.
3. Add sugar if your child is weaning from breast milk, as breast milk is often sweet to the taste and your infant may miss this. Do not put more than one teaspoonful into each bottle or cup.
4. Give your child the goat milk and monitor him for any potential allergies or reactions, such as abdominal pain or other issues.

Bladder cancer affects an organ in the abdomen. The bladder stores urine until it passes through the body. There are several treatments available for this type of cancer. It is important to be knowledgeable of the treatments available in case this disease ever affects you personally.
Surgery
Surgery may be used to remove the cancer cells only or just part of the bladder. If the entire bladder must be removed, another surgery can create a new way for the body to store urine.
Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy uses either external or internal radiation to kill the cancer cells. External machines can send waves through the body to the cells, or the radiation may flow directly through wires or catheters into the body.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy will use drugs, either orally or intravenously, to kill the cancer cells. It may also be used simply to stop the cancer cells from growing further.
Biologic Therapy
Biologic therapy, or immunotherapy, uses an individual's natural immune system to fight the disease. A laboratory will use matter from the body to boost the patient's defenses.
Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic therapy, or PDT, is being used in clinical trials. A drug is injected into the patient and upon contact with a light becomes active, killing the cancer cells.

Studies have shown that chronic stress can cause physical illness. Reducing stress is important for positive physical and mental health. Visualization can reduce stress by creating subconscious positive feelings. Here's do it.
Instructions
1. Explore color visualization techniques. Color visualization attaches emotions to various colors. Visualizing blue in different parts of the body are thought to provide a calming and relaxing effect. Color visualization is based on studies of the impact of light and color on mental health.
2. Rehearse future events that are causing stress in your mind. The concept of "mental rehearsal" is used by performers to work through pre performance anxiety. See yourself accomplishing a task and the task becomes less of a source of stress.
3. Relax with a friend or a relation tape. This form is a form of guided visualization. An external source guides you to a calm or positive mental image and encourages you to affirm your abilities and release unwanted stress from your mind. Multiple guided visualization tapes are available on the Internet.
4. Think positively and visualize improvements in your life. This method is used by cancer patients and other chronically ill people to actively fight disease. The concept is basically "think yourself well."
5. Mix visualization techniques with other relaxation techniques such as mediation or yoga. Most visualization techniques encourage you to mentally picture a positive memory and utilize that memory to create positive emotions in your subconscious. Reducing stress with visualization is more effective when other stress reduction techniques are also used.

To many people, the idea of getting a tummy tuck sounds wonderful, but it can be very expensive. Since most health insurance companies will not cover the cost of cosmetic procedures, it can be very challenging to get a tummy tuck paid for by insurance. This does not mean that it isn't possible to do so, however. Here are some of the things to keep in mind if you're interested in having a tummy tuck done but are unable to afford the procedure.
Instructions
1. Visit your primary care physician. Have a routine physical, and talk to your doctor about any side effects that your tummy may be causing you to experience. If there is some type of health problem that can be linked to the need to have a tummy tuck, your health insurance company may be willing to provide some coverage.
2. Determine whether your abdominal region is causing you to experience back pain. This side effect is especially common among people who tend to carry their weight in the stomach region. Health insurance companies often cover the cost of breast reduction due to back pain, so it's not unheard of that some will provide coverage for tummy tucks when the stomach causes this same problem.
3. Allow your doctor to check you for a ventral or umbilical hernia. These are both problems that can be caused by the abdominal region. Health insurance companies may provide coverage for a tummy tuck for patients who experience either of these health problems due to their abdomen.
4. Have your doctor put you on a diet and exercise regimen that may help correct the problem. Schedule regular visits in which the doctor will record any weight that you lose, or do not lose. If you have difficulty losing weight, the doctor can send the records of your repeated visits as proof that you are having a difficult time losing weight on your own.
5. Request information from your health insurance company about coverage for tummy tucks. Some companies may be willing to provide a certain amount of coverage to patients who have health issues caused by their abdominal region. On the other hand, some health insurance companies may be unwilling to budge on the guidelines that they have for cosmetic procedures.

Many people use their eyes over long periods of time which in turn causes eye strain. There are some simple things individuals can do to eliminate this strain, especially if whatever they are working on requires extended periods of focus, such as reading often does.
Instructions
1. Provide adequate and soothing lighting when having to focus on any project for extended periods of time. Make sure the lighting in the room you are in does not cause squinting. Make sure the light is coming from behind and over your shoulder. If overhead lighting is all that is available, try not to be positioned directly underneath it. Further, fluorescent lighting appears to be easiest on one's eyes.
2. Make sure what you are concentrating on is large enough to see. If you are reading print of any kind, make sure it is at least a 12 font. If it is not, you may want to consider using a magnifying glass or reading glasses. if you are lying in bed or sitting in a chair, try a pillow for support against your neck. This will help to prevent stress of your muscles in your neck as you read, and may help improve your concentration levels as well.
3. Take frequent breaks when concentrating for large periods of time. Be sure to blink your eyes several times in between lengthy periods of concentration. Take a walk around the inside of your home or around the block. Diverting your attention, even if only for a short period of time, will help to give your eyes a break they may need.
4. Place a cold wash cloth over your eyes and gently hold it there for a minute or until the cold sensation disappears. The cold feeling will help to restrict inflammation of the nerve areas around the eye as well as provide soothing comfort. Further, a sachet of lavender placed momentarily over the eyes may also help in soothing strained eyes.
5. Take a nap if you are tired as a result of reading. Retention of the material will be decreased as a result of a tired mind. Refreshed eyes are able to concentrate better after sleeping.

You can use Aqua Chi in the bath or just for your feet.
Aqua Chi is an alternative healing method that combines water with electricity. Proponents say it will detoxify your body, boost energy levels, strengthen your immune system, aid with pain relief and promote overall health. According to EnergyWellnessProducts.com, Aqua Chi devices use negative ions and electrodes to balance and enhance bio-energy, the electromagnetic force in our bodies.
Time Frame
You don't need a large amount of time to devote to Aqua Chi to get results. AquaChiHome recommends using this treatment for 30 minutes every two days. You also should factor in time for setup and cleanup, which should only take about 10 minutes.
Types
Aqua Chi treatments can involve full-body bathing or soaking your feet in a footbath. Both treatments take the same amount of time. Full-body bathing, according to AquaChiHome, absorbs energy throughout your body. With the footbath, the energy enters through your feet and lower legs and then travels through your body.
Considerations
The footbath treatment is portable, so you can use it at work or even just relaxing in front of the TV. Some elderly users choose the footbath if they have difficulty getting in and out of the tub. For optimal results, however, you should use the full-body method, according to AquaChiHome.
Method
All parts of the body that are submerged in the water will receive the Aqua Chi energy. Direct contact of the skin with the water provides maximum cleansing benefits and also will hydrate the skin. This method is good if you need specific treatments in your torso and/or neck area. If you have particular problems with your feet, ankles or legs, you should probably choose the footbath. The energy will go to your feet first, giving this area the most energy.
Expert Insight
Whether to conduct your Aqua Chi treatment in the morning or at night is a personal preference, according to AquaChiHome. The treatment relaxes some people, while others feel energized. If you use your Aqua Chi treatment before bed and find that it keeps you up, use it in the morning instead. If you find the treatment helps you sleep, then use it at night.

Fleas and ticks can make both you and your pet miserable.
Under normal circumstances flea and tick bites are more bothersome than troublesome; the majority of victims (both human and pet) exhibit only minor discomfort with no lasting effects. But for those with allergies or who have come into contact with a tick that is carrying a disease, the consequences of even one bite can be far more complicated. Knowing what to look for will help you know when a bite is treatable at home and when it's time to consult a physician.
Flea Bites
Flea bites first appear about a half hour after the actual bite and typically on, though not limited to, the feet and ankles. The bite will present as a small raised bump with a single bite mark in the center. Bites on people or animals with sensitivity to fleas might exhibit a red bump surrounded by a reddened halo. Because a single flea is capable of biting up to 400 times, the bites will usually occur as a few bites close together or in clusters.
Signs of Trouble from a Flea Bite
Some dogs develop flea allergy dermatitis (FAD), which will result in excessive itching and scratching that can lead to open sores and hair loss. Secondary infections from severe scratching can also occur. In people who are sensitive to insect bites, flea bites can swell into painful red mounds that can become infected or in the case of hives, a rash of raised red bumps. Consult a physician if the itching and swelling is not relieved by applying ice packs, by taking an antihistamine or if other symptoms including fever follow the bite.
Tick Bites
The bite of a tick is painless and because they are small enough to be hidden by fur, are often not noticed until the tick itself has swelled with blood. Once the tick has been removed, a red mark where the mouth parts pierced the skin may be the only indication of the bite.
Reasons to Call a Doctor after a Tick Bite
A doctor should be consulted if a rash consisting of raised red bumps appears at the site of the bite or if a severe headache or fever occurs two to 14 days following the bite. If the bite is infected, which might occur if the entire tick is not removed, it could show red streak marks originating from the bite area and possibly produce a yellowish drainage. A red ring that resembles a bull's-eye surrounding the bite may indicate Lyme disease and could appear three to 30 days after the bite.
Prevention
Discovering even one flea bite on your ankle or a tick on your dog, could mean there are hundreds more fleas and ticks in the vicinity, a problem that can only be truly solved by treating your house and yard with a pesticide specifically designed to eliminate the pests. Staying vigilant against a re-infestation can greatly reduce the chance for any future health problems for you and your pets.
Many people are making the shift to investigate and use alternative medical treatment rather than visit their local doctor and pay the exorbitant prices for treatments that only marginally work. This generation has made Prozac and Valium use like popping gumballs at the first sign of anxiety. Here is a natural tea made with herbs that have sedative effects and tend to bring a feeling of calm in their wake.
Instructions
1. Select the herbs that you want to use for your tea. Part of this selection will have to do with the effect of the herb and part will depend on your personal taste. The herbs that have a calming, tranquilizing effect and work to combat nervousness are: bugleweed, catnip, chamomile, feverfew, hops, mullien, passion flower, peppermint, skullcap, valerian and verhena. These are the major constituents of the tea that you will make.
2. Choose the herb that you want to use as a flavoring to the tea. The herbs that work well for this are: allspice, anise, caraway, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, coriander, ginger, lemon peel, orange peel and vanilla bean. Whichever one or more of these that you choose will be a personal taste.
3. Decide on the soothing component of the tea. These herbs have soothing qualities that prevent stomach and intestinal upset. The herbs that are used for this are: arrowroot, borage, coltsfoot, licorice root, comfrey root, marshmallow leaves and root, oatmeal, sassafras pith, slippery elm bark and Solomon's seal root. The choice of this may require a bit of trial and error to find which work the best for you.
4. Mix the herbs that you have chosen in proportions of 4 parts herb, 1 part flavoring and 1 part soothing component. If you have chosen more than one herb in any of the 3 categories then the total of all the herbs should be 1 tsp. This amount will be sufficient to make one cup of tea.
5. Place 1 tsp. of the mixture in the bottom of a cup and add boiling water. Allow the herbs to steep for about 3 minutes and then strain out the herbs and enjoy your cup of tea.
6. Drink 1 to 3 cups of tea per day in half-cup doses. For best results, this effect will grow with time.

Cardiovascular disease, which is sometimes known as heart disease, is not just one disease but rather a collection of diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels. Some forms of cardiovascular disease are angina, stroke, high blood pressure, heart attack and coronary artery disease. An unhealthy diet can contribute to heart disease, as can inactivity and smoking. Below are some ways to cut the risk of getting cardiovascular disease and live healthier in the process.
Instructions
1. Stop smoking. This could be one the most important things you ever do for yourself. Smoking not only contributes to cardiovascular disease but also to other diseases, such as lung cancer, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
2. Start exercising. Regular exercise, such as aerobics, walking and even jumping rope, for at least 30 minutes each day, will help improve your overall health, which, in turn, helps strengthen your heart. Martial arts are especially beneficial to your heart, body and mind.
3. Get your cholesterol levels checked. Having high levels of bad cholesterol can increase the chances of plaque building up in your arteries. Foods such as oats, apples, legumes and garlic help lower cholesterol.
4. Eat healthy foods. The food we eat provides nutrition for our bodies but can sometimes make our bodies sick. Foods high in saturated fats, such as butter and fatty meats, can also increase the chance of having plaque build up. Overweight people have an increased risk for heart disease, so it is important to maintain a healthy weight.
5. Find healthy ways to control stress in your life. Stress can raise your blood pressure, which can increase your risk of heart disease. Get regular checkups or at least keep an eye on your blood pressure. If it is high, the doctor may need to put you on medication to bring it down.
The process of breathing is very closely related to the nervous system, so it is no wonder that breathing exercises can greatly help reduce anxiety. When we experience anxiety, the body's reaction is to take quick, shallow breaths. This pattern of breathing can cause you to hyperventilate. Most breathing exercises focus on drawing the breath into the abdominal area, to reverse the anxious way of breathing. There are many breathing techniques available, many of them used in yoga.
Standing Exercise
Stand with feet shoulder width apart, your back straight and your body comfortable. As you slowly draw a breath into your abdomen, raise your arms up and out at the sides of your body until they are raised above your head. Hold the breath for a few seconds and then lower your arms slowly as you exhale all the air from your lungs. Continue repeating this process for as long as you want and until you feel calm.
Abdomingal Muscle Breathing
This exercise uses your abdominal muscles to help train your body to take deeper breaths. It is even more relaxing because you do it while lying comfortably on the floor. Use your abdominal muscles to expand your stomach so that it is distended like a balloon. Hold this position for a few seconds. Then use the same muscles to suck in the muscles as far as they will go. Once again, hold this position for a few seconds. Practice this repetition until your body seems to naturally rock from the motions. Then you can coordinate your breathing to the muscle movements. Inhale through your nose as you push your stomach out and then exhale through your mouth as you suck your stomach back in. On the exhale, imagine that you are forcing the air out through your body, all the way to your fingertips and toes. This exercise and visualization nourishes the muscles with oxygen, making them more relaxed.
Nostril Breathing
Nostril breathing is a very common yoga practice that involves alternating the nostril that you breathe through. It is said to improve function of both sides of the brain, allowing the person to feel balanced. This breathing technique is also very therapeutic for the nervous system and calming the body and mind. You can do this exercise in a sitting position. Put your right hand up to your face, with your pointer and middle finger tucked in, your thumb on the right side of your nose and the pinkie and ring finger on the left side. Close the right nostril with your thumb and breathe in through the left nostril for four seconds. Then release the thumb and close the left nostril with the ring and pinkie finger, exhaling for eight seconds. Then inhale through the right nostril for four seconds and then cover the right with your thumb and exhale through the left for eight seconds. You can do this exercise for as long as it feels comfortable.

Paraffin wax treatments have been used for decades, not only as a preservative for chocolates and apples, but also as a beauty treatment. Few people realize that paraffin wax treatments are also effective in treating arthritis pain. Similar to massage, paraffin wax can be used daily with almost no side effects.
What Is Paraffin Wax?
Paraffin wax is a white, odorless, tasteless solid with several practical applications, including electrical insulation and heat retention. It has a low melting point and does not adhere to skin, making it ideal for hot wax treatments. It can be found in the canning aisle of grocery stores and at some pharmacies or beauty supply shops. Essential oils can be added to liquid paraffin wax for aromatherapy benefits, as well as benefits from the use of particular oils.
Where To Get A Treatment
Many spas offer paraffin wax as a skin care treatment, and the methods used are the same as those used for arthritis treatments. Some massage therapists will also offer paraffin wax treatments, but call ahead to make sure your therapist is trained and equipped for such a treatment. Finally, you can perform these treatments yourself with either a commercial paraffin wax appliance or a Crock-Pot.
What You Need
Before attempting a paraffin wax treatment at home some supplies are required. A paraffin wax bath is designed to melt and keep the wax liquid at the proper temperature, but serves no other function. A Crock-Pot can also be used for paraffin wax treatments, but you must closely monitor the temperature of the wax. You will need at least 4 oz. of solid paraffin wax and either 1 oz. of mineral oil to add to the melted wax or olive oil and a brush to apply a light coat to the skin. The oil prevents the wax from clinging to the skin and hairs, making removal very simple. A common option is to add several drops of essential oil for aromatherapy, to capitalize on the health benefits of essential oil, or simply provide a pleasant scent. You will also need two plastic bags; grocery bags or produce bags will work fine. At least one large towel is needed for keeping your hands warm and a smaller towel to catch any drips from the wax.
How Is It Used?
Paraffin wax is melted to a temperature of no more than 125 degrees F to prevent burning the skin. Before the hands are dipped in, add 1 oz. mineral oil and stir in along with a few drops of essential oil such as lavender for aroma. Once it is mixed and a thin skin has formed across the top, dip one hand in, spreading the fingers to coat the entire hand. Holding the hand and fingers still, lift the hand out and allow the wax to dry for a few seconds. Dip in again and repeat until there are have several coats of wax. With your free hand, wrap the wax-covered hand in a plastic bag, then a large towel. This traps the heat close to the skin. Allow the wax to set for at least 20 minutes, holding your hand still. After 20 minutes or so, remove the towel and plastic wrap, then gently peel the wax off of your hand. Repeat for the other hand.
Reusing Paraffin Wax
If you are the only one using the paraffin wax, it is OK to place the peeled wax back in the Crock-Pot or paraffin bath. If anyone else will use the wax for any purpose, do not reuse the wax.

An affiliation with an institution of higher education can pay off by easing some of the major costs associated with paying for nursing supplies, especially in the teaching realm where one may be buying often and in bulk. It's particularly helpful during times of tighter budgets, when schools and medical facilities may have less money to offer to pick up the tab for new supplies. You may also find gently used supplies at online marketplaces, which will also help to ease that burden.
Instructions
1. Start with MacGill. This company has been around for more than a century, and is devoted to selling school nurse supplies at discounted prices. In addition, all schools have instant credit with the company. It offers a variety of common supplies, including bandages, gloves and diagnostic equipment, and the company doesn't have a minimum-order requirement.
2. Look into companies that focus on more educational and classroom-oriented materials and supplies. For example, Pocket Nurse touts a large array of medical supplies for use in the classroom and for simulation. Here you can find simulators and manikins from leading manufacturers, such as Laerdal and Nasco. Generally speaking, Pocket Nurse sells a wide range of simulators for birthing, incision and infants, as well as a geriatric skills manikin, airway management trainers, drug charts, skeletons and skulls, anatomical models, and prepared slides. Products are on often on sale. Check frequently.
3. Consider used supplies. These products have barely been removed from the package, and are very often simply not needed by the purchaser anymore or were never needed, and that individual may want to get the product off of his hands. So it's worth looking into gently used supplies at a fraction of the cost of what you would buy for brand new nursing supplies. Many online marketplaces are great places to start. Check out stores related to nurse supplies on eBay as well as medmarketplace.com, which touts thousands of medical products sold by those in the field.
4. Seek information and network through two nurse educator associations: The National League for Nursing and The American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Both organization provide a wealth of resources for the nurse educator, as well as contacts which can provide information not only on medical suppliers but on ways to obtain discounted products.

A pontine stroke is essentially a stroke within the brain stem due to a hemorrhage, or bleeding of the blood vessels in this portion of the brain. This type of stroke is linked more to hypertension, or high blood pressure, than to anything else. However, simply being hypertensive doesn't mean you'll necessarily have a pontine stroke. It's just one of the risk factors. As with any condition, there are a number of symptoms of a pontine stroke that can help indicate whether a person is experiencing one.
Vertigo
Most strokes that are located in the brain stem will commonly prompt the symptom of vertigo. A pontine stroke is no different. This symptom is actually more of a warning sign as this spinning sensation will often hit a person well before a stroke occurs. Vertigo is characterized by a feeling that the room is spinning or tilting in a direction that it actually isn't, and will often cause a person to feel dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous or unsteady. But, the sensation of vertigo isn't exclusive to a stroke within the brain stem. Just because you experience vertigo doesn't mean you will suffer a stroke. Consult a doctor to better understand your personal condition.
Headache
Another common symptom of a pontine stroke would be a moderate to severe headache. This symptom will usually hit a person full on, and will be fairly hard to shake. If you've ever had a headache before, it will be very similar to that sensation.
Weakness
Many people who suffer from a pontine stroke will also begin to experience a certain amount of weakness. This particular symptom will typically be isolated to either the right or the left side of the body. The amount of weakness will often be based on the severity and location of the hemorrhage. Some people will only experience a moderate weakness to one side of their body while others will suffer from a more pronounced weakness. It will often be accompanied by a numbness or tingling sensation.
Visual Disturbance
A number of people suffering from a stroke within the brain stem will also undergo some sort of visual disturbance. It will often be a sensation of double vision, or one object being perceived as two, within the person's lateral gaze. While this condition will usually strike the affected side, a person will most likely distinguish it as a state within both eyes.
Slurred Speech
Some people will also face a certain amount of slurred speech. It may seem almost as if the person is drunk and having a hard time forming the words. Usually this symptom, when present, will worsen as time progresses and be accompanied by other symptoms (those already mentioned).

Despite their unsettling appearance, leeches occupy a valued place in both historical and current medical practice. Leeches are currently used, for example, in specific microsurgery cases and to help with some skin grafts. Regardless of these benefits, an unsupervised leech experience can be dangerous. It can lead to a large amount of blood loss, as well as infection. Once attached, you must take the proper steps to remove the leech or its head may remain lodged in your skin, leading to infection.
Instructions
Removing with Hands
1. Find the leech. Leeches secrete a mild anesthetic when they attach. This means that you may not feel any pain. If you feel a slimy sensation on your skin, check yourself thoroughly. You may need to ask a friend to help you check areas you can't see.
2. Slide your fingernail underneath the end of the leech where its mouth is located. Slowly push it away from your skin. The mouth is generally located on the skinny end of the leech. If you cannot tell, use your fingers to gently feel for the mouth.
3. Remove it from your finger quickly. Speed is of the essence as you want to get rid of the leech before it attaches itself to your finger.
Removing with Irritants
4. Apply heat from a match to the leech. You can also use a small amount of salt as an irritant. The irritant should cause the leech to detach itself from your body.
5. Flick the leech away before it can reattach itself to another part of your body.
6. Check the bitten area to verify that no part of the head was left on the skin.

Nursing care plans and diagnoses identify existing or potential problems and outline a course of action to provide the best possible care to the patient. A care plan consists of diagnoses, goals and interventions.
Assessment
Before a diagnosis can be written, the nurse needs to gather all pertinent information from any available source. These include patient interviews, charts and other medical professionals involved in his care.
Diagnosing
Once all the information is gathered, the nurse writes one or more nursing diagnoses identifying existing or possible health concerns. The diagnosis states the problem and backs it up with evidence.
Goals
The next step in creating a care plan is establishing reasonable goals related to the diagnoses. If possible, include the patient in this process as much as possible to help give her a sense of control.
Interventions
Interventions are actions the nurse can take to help the patient meet the goals. Many hospitals use a standardized list of interventions to make coding easier.
Adaptability
Every care plan must be adaptable to the patient's current situation. Goals can change and interventions can fail, so be ready to alter the plan as needed. A care plan is a guideline, not a rule book.
The best method to prevent seasickness or motion sickness is to take action before it starts. By taking measures before embarking on the watercraft, most incidences of seasickness can be averted or greatly reduced.
Prepare yourself against becoming ill before hitting the waves.
Causes
Seasickness is caused when the brain receives conflicting signals. While in the watercraft, the passenger feels the motion of the ship, but her eyes do not see it, therefore these mixed signals induce distressing symptoms.
Symptoms
Symptoms of seasickness include anxiety, dizziness, vertigo, flushing, sweating, nausea, vomiting, headache, shaking, hyperventilation, rapid heart rate and lightheadedness. Though these symptoms are distressing, they are transient. Seasickness can be so disruptive to traveling that some individuals forgo taking a trip altogether. In most cases this is not necessary, as there are very effective methods to prevent seasickness.
Treatment with Medications
One of the best methods to prevent seasickness is by taking anti-seasickness medications before embarking on a journey. Medications such as antihistamines, the same medications that are used by allergy suffers, work by reducing nausea and anxiety. It is vital that the medication be taken before symptoms present themselves as this will avoid a full-blown episode of seasickness. Side effects can be bothersome and include profound drowsiness and dry mouth.
Treatment with Powdered Ginger
Another effective method to prevent seasickness is powdered ginger capsules. Ginger is the same herb used in ginger ale, the time-tested drink that quells nausea. Ginger helps calm the gastrointestinal tract and relieves motion-sickness-related anxiety. Powdered ginger is often the treatment of choice for morning sickness, as it is an effective alternative to medication, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy. Ginger works to curb seasickness without inducing any side effects or adverse reaction.
Treatment with Sea Bands
Sea Bands are a highly effective method to prevent seasickness. Sea Bands are wrist bands that work on the principle of accupressure. When the bands on worn on the wrists, they compress the pressure point that is responsible for relieving nausea and anxiousness. This seasickness prevention method is also used to diminish symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum, or morning sickness.
Common Sense Treatments
Common sense methods to prevent seasickness include not eating a large, greasy meal before traveling. If the individual knows that he is prone to seasickness, he should have only a light meal and keep himself well hydrated. Getting fresh air is very comforting to the person who is seasick, so when in the watercraft, sitting on the deck and focusing on the horizon can ease the symptoms. Seasickness may be averted if noxious smells and smoke are avoided too. Seasickness is very unpleasant, but by employing these methods, it can be managed.
Nausea can precede vomiting, which can lead to serious complications like dehydration.
Nausea, or discomfort of the stomach that can precede vomiting, is a symptom of a host of conditions and diseases. Less serious causes of nausea include motion sickness, pregnancy or overeating. Nausea is also a symptom of serious medical issues like heart attacks, ulcers and some forms of cancer. If your nausea is the result of a minor condition, there are simple treatments you can try at home to help settle your stomach and bring relief. If nausea lasts more than a few days, seek medical attention.
Instructions
1. Walk outside and get some fresh air. Sometimes fresh oxygen is all that is needed to help get nausea to pass.
2. Drink small sips of water, or another clear liquid, while sitting in a comfortable position. This can help prevent vomiting and will keep you hydrated in case you do start vomiting.
3. Drink ginger ale, preferably flat, which can help settle the stomach. Other ginger products, like ginger candies or ginger tea, can be used in place of ginger ale. Ginger is believed to aid the digestive system and can also help settle your stomach.
4. Eat crackers or other bland food, taking small bites and drinking lots of water while eating. If your nausea is not caused by overeating, getting a small amount of bland food in your stomach can help alleviate your symptoms.
5. Eat bananas. Bananas are rich with nutrients, have a simple and soothing texture and also stimulate the production of the mucus that lines the stomach. This mucus lining can help soothe ulcers, heartburn and other conditions that can cause nausea.

A positron emission tomography (PET) scan allows doctors to observe how well your internal organs are functioning. Using the help of a radiotracer, this imaging test pinpoints areas of disease or abnormality in your body.
Radiotracer
As the Cleveland Clinic notes, a radiotracer is a small amount of radioactive material injected into your arm before the PET scan. Your body's organs absorb the radiotracer, and the PET scanner records the energy that the tracer emits.
PET Scanner
As Brigham and Women's Hospital explains, the PET scanner is a large, box-like device with an opening in the middle. To be scanned, you lie down on a narrow table that slides into the scanner's opening.
How A PET Scan Works
According to the Mayo Clinic, the radiotracer tends to concentrate in areas of your body that are exhibiting higher levels of chemical activity. These concentrated areas of radiotracer show up as bright spots on the PET scan. Higher chemical activity often corresponds to disease or abnormality.
Duration
Depending on the area of the body being scanned, you will likely spend 30 to 60 minutes in the PET scanner, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Before the actual scan, you also need to wait for the radiotracer to be absorbed, which generally takes 45 minutes to an hour.
Uses
According to the Mayo Clinic, PET scans are often used in diagnosing and treating heart disease, some neurological disorders and certain types of cancer.

Vitamin and nutritional supplements can be part of stroke recovery and may help to prevent recurrent strokes. The supplements mentioned in this article are not the only supplements that may aid in stroke recovery and prevention. A doctor can determine a supplement regimen based on a stroke victim's individual needs.
Stroke
A stroke is caused by interrupted blood flow to the brain. An ischemic stroke is caused by a blocked blood vessel. A burst and bleeding blood vessel in the brain causes a hemorrhagic stroke. Symptoms of a stroke occur suddenly and may include severe headache, confusion, loss of balance, impaired speech and numbness along one side of the body. Strokes can result in partial paralysis, dementia and death. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), 25 percent of stroke victims will experience another stroke within five years. Therefore, stroke recovery can involve stroke prevention measures including vitamin and nutritional supplements.
Folic Acid/B Vitamins
According to the National Stroke Association, high levels of homocysteine may increase the risk of stroke. Homocysteine is an amino acid that is naturally produced within the body. High levels of homocysteine may correspond with low levels of vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid. Homocysteine may be returned to a healthy level with folic acid, as well as vitamin B6 and B12 supplements. According to PureHealthMD.com, vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid may also help to preserve the brain cells of stroke victims.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E may be a beneficial supplement for stroke recovery and prevention. According to Holisticonline.com, vitamin E increases the rate at which unhealthy cholesterol, known as LDL, is broken down, and vitamin E may also reduce the risk of developing blood clots that cause ischemic stroke. However, Holisticonline.com warns that a vitamin E supplement may increase a person's risk of hemorrhagic stroke.
Other Supplements
A variety of other vitamin and nutritional supplements may also be good to take following a stroke. Coenzyme Q10 may help increase blood flow to the brain and help brain cells to produce energy. Vinpocetine may also increase blood flow to the brain as well as improve cognitive functioning, and prevent the formation of blood clots, according to PureHealthMD.com.
