Cancer can cause significant pain and it has many causes. If tumors still are present, the masses may cause pain by pressing on a nerve or causing tissue inflammation. If you have had surgery or chemotherapy, there may be nerve damage causing pain. The stress of chemotherapy alone also can cause residual pain.
Instructions
manage cancer pain
1. Learn to recognize your pain. In order to find the best treatment to reduce your pain, you will need to explain to your doctor what the pain is like. This can include the severity, which is usually measured on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst pain you ever have experienced. You will need to describe the location, the time of day it is occurring, the duration and the quality of the pain, such as a sharp, stabbing or a dull ache.
2. Take a mild painkiller. This can include over-thecounter medications, such as acetaminophen or anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Tylenol, aspirin or Aleve. These should be used for mild pain, as the medication may only alleviate symptoms for a short period of time.
3. Take a stronger pain medication requiring a doctor's prescription. There are many options. For moderate pain, try medications with codeine, such as Tylenol with Codeine. For severe pain, take morphine, oxycodone or dilaudid. These may be heavy doses and can come with risks when taken on a regular basis.
4. Take a muscle relaxant as you may be experiencing muscle spasms from the cancer. These medications could include Flexeril or Ativan.
5. Get a massage. Massage therapy can provide temporary relief and allow the muscles to relax.
6. Try ice packs or a hot bath. These can assist with muscle relaxation and reduction of swelling, all brought on by the cancer or the chemotherapy.
7. Try a TENS Unit. A transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator can be prescribed by your physician. It is a machine that you can use at home. You place electrodes on your body near the pain and it delivers mild electric shocks that stimulate the nerves and block the pain. Consult your physician regarding whether this is right for your condition.

A "Thinking of You" card is always appropriate for a hospice patient.
Once a patient reaches the stage of her illness and becomes a candidate for hospice care, it's obvious not only to their medical care providers, but to family members and friends as well that the end is likely close at hand. Calls and cards are still appropriate means of expressing your concerns. Visits should be cleared with hospice care or family members. When sending cards, however, it's important to choose your words carefully. In situations such as these, a get well card is definitely not an option.
Don't Ignore Death
Hospice patients are well aware of the fact that they are dying, so don't beat around the bush or evade the issue. It's okay to ask them if they're scared and to admit that you're scared at the prospect of losing them.
If you know that the patient shares or is open to your religious beliefs, feel free to send words about faith and prayers in an attempt to provide some comfort. Mention the afterlife as your religion sees it, and your belief that he will be free of pain and illness at that time.
Ask if there are any prayer requests he would like to make, and promise to fulfill them.
Be Tactful with Cards
Get Well or Feel Better Soon cards are inappropriate for patients in hospice care. They likely aren't going to get well, and even if they experience a slight improvement in their condition it is usually only temporary.
If you choose to send a card, stick to one that says "Thinking of You" or one that states warm thoughts and feelings without directly using words like "healing" or "recovery."
Express Your Feelings
Ask if there is anything you can do for the person. While you certainly can't make her well, you may be able to instill peace of mind by performing tasks she is too ill to do herself. She may have some unfinished business in some area of her life that you could take care of for her. You'll never know if you don't ask. A nurse or nearby family member can contact you with details.
Tell the person how much she means to you and write about past experiences that resulted in cherished memories. Share humorous accounts of times you've shared. Promise to always keep such memories alive in your heart. People in hospice care are often comforted by the thought that they won't be forgotten.
There are two types of lupus. Systemic lupus erythematosus affects many different parts of the body. This serious condition presents a variety of symptoms, some similar to arthritis. Discoid lupus erythematosus primarily affects the skin and is less serious than the systemic lupus. Either form is serious in its own right, but there are things you can do to control some of the effects of this mysterious disease.
Instructions
1. Watch the types of fats and oils you consume. Canola and olive oil are the best to use for cooking.
2. Avoid nightshade vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants and peppers. They can cause pain and inflammation to lupus sufferers who are overly sensitive.
3. Eat foods that contain bromelain. Two excellent sources are papaya and pineapple. Bromelain reduces inflammation and strengthens the tissues, especially near the joints.
4. Avoid red meat and most dairy foods. Caffeine, processed sugar and citrus fruits should also be on the lists forbidden foods. Most of these foods are high in acid or produce acid once they enter the body.
5. Look for herbs that fight inflammation and build immunities. Milk thistle, pau d'arco, red clover and alfalfa are all beneficial. Research an herb to find out exactly what it does and what to expect from your body when you start taking it.
6. Work closely with your physician. Make sure he knows the remedies you are trying. Remember that some herbs will interact with prescription drugs. If you have any doubts, ask your doctor.
7. Stay out of direct sunlight. Avoid tanning beds, too. Studies have shown that exposure to UV light can trigger flare-ups.
Controlling ki can have a dramatic effect on health and well-being.
Ki, or the life force that pervades the universe, when controlled, may be enlisted to cure disease, promote health and hone spiritual awareness. Managing this energy can directly impact the quality of life. Controlling ki may take a variety of forms, with exercises that shake the body to release tension, use sounds to purge toxins, build power in the center of the body or specific organs, and balance energies in the body. Practicing the control of ki can be beneficial to young or old, or anyone who wishes to harness the rejuvenative and life-extending practice of directing ki in their lives.
Instructions
1. Direct, move and feel ki. Visualize ki as a white current flowing through different parts of your body. Focus on this current or invisible energy within you and "see" it going where you want it to go, from one area to another. Concentrate this energy into a white ball between your palms and notice how it grows. Send this accumulated energy to another person, by pushing out the ball towards them.
2. Strengthen ki by cleansing your chakras, or the seven energy centers in the body that regulate different organs, emotions and spirituality. Imagine ki moving through each of your chakras, from the root up to the crown. See the chakras spinning and becoming enlivened by the ki, while breathing deeply as ki spins each one in turn. Note any chakras where there is any cessation of movement or blockage and focus on that chakra to reopen it and restore movement.
3. Breathe spinally to evenly distribute ki energy throughout your body. As with cleansing of chakras, you can also control ki through breathing and managing ki as it courses through all your chakras. Start from the base at the root chakra and breathe as ki cycles through all the chakras in sequence. Note how ki leaves your body from the top of your head at the crown chakra, to reenter the body at the root chakra. Do this repeatedly until you feel calm and the energy movement subsides.
4. Heal illness by applying ki to the area that needs healing. Center the ki, visualized as white light accumulated in the hands, around the affected area. Feel the warmth as the ki works on the area to heal it and envision the area as healed. Do this on yourself or on others to cure diseases as diverse as asthma, cancer, heart disease, fibromyalgia and headaches.

Encourage your preschooler to wear underwear during the day.
As toddlers grow into preschoolers, many things change, including the amount of time spent in a diaper. Many preschoolers still sleep in diapers during the night in case of a bedtime accident, which can lead to diaper rash. Diaper rash that is not treated can lead to a more serious infection that will require a visit to the doctor. Treat your preschooler at home to get rid of his diaper rash once and for all.
Instructions
1. Change the preschooler's diaper often. Many times the child will be transitioning between diapers and underwear. This does not mean that the child can be left in soiled diapers for longer periods of time.
2. Wipe down the child with a warm washcloth instead of diaper wipes. Many brands of wipes contain dyes and irritants that will make the diaper rash worse.
3. Give the child cranberry juice and more fluids throughout the day. The juice and fluids will make his urine less concentrated, which will cut down on the irritation and redness associated with diaper rashes.
4. Place the child into a bathtub that is filled three to four inches with warm water, two to three times a day. This will help soothe her irritated skin if the diaper rash has become painful.
5. Cover the child's red, irritated area with over-the-counter diaper rash cream several times a day. Make sure the ointment is placed onto a clean, dry bottom to ensure that it works more effectively.
6. Encourage the child to wear underwear more often. This will reduce the amount of irritation to the skin, allowing it to breathe and heal more quickly.

Texas provides Medicaid benefits to low-income individuals with a medical disability. Anxiety disorders, such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), are considered qualifying disabilities if they impair the person's ability to obtain and maintain employment.
Instructions
1. Gather the necessary documents that must be submitted to Medicaid. This includes a government-issued photo identification card, Social Security statement or card, birth certificate, proof of earnings such as pay stubs, Social Security award letters, or child support payments, bank statements, documentation of all other cash-value resources (i.e. car title or house deed), medical bills, insurance policies, a lease for your apartment, utility bills and medical records that support your disability. For an anxiety disorder, you will likely need a psychological exam and other records that specifically state that you are unable to work as a result of this disorder.
2. Complete a Medicaid application, providing your full name, Social Security number, address and phone number. Submit this application with the documents from Step 1 as instructed on the application.
3. If you are denied benefits, write an appeal letter and submit it to your local or state Medicaid office within the designated time frame. Gather documentation that further supports your disability and submit this documentation. Be prepared to state the exact reasons why you are unable to work if you are required to attend a hearing with an administrative law judge.

Liver cancer is often the result of another liver disease such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. Other possible causes include use of oral contraceptives and exposure to carcinogenic chemicals. There are many natural treatments that can be helpful and should be used in conjunction with standard medical treatments for liver cancer.
Beneficial Herbs
Herbs and pharmaceutical agents are assigned dosages based on one of their most important pharmacological properties, therapeutic range. Therapeutic range is the smallest dose that provides any medicinal effect to the largest dose safe for consumption. Herbal remedies are generally nontoxic, and serious complications or overdose are unlikely. However, stick to suggested amounts; taking more is unlikely to produce additional benefit and can cause negative side effects.
Astragalus capsules stimulate immune system cells that attack tumors. Take 500 to 1,000 mg three times per day. Barberry, coptis, goldenseal, or Oregon grape root contains berberine, which halts multiplication of liver cancer cells. Take 500 mg of any of these herbs daily. Lentinan inhibits the growth of liver tumors. This can only be given through injection by a healthcare professional. Reishi helps stop progression of liver cancer cells. Take three grams in tablet form daily. Scutellaria causes death of liver cancer cells and can reduce chemotherapy induced immune system damage. Take one to two grams three times daily.
Formulas
Essiac tea is a very popular natural remedy that consists of a number of herbs that are purported to stop tumors from developing their own blood supply and stimulate production of white blood cells. However, scientific studies have shown mixed results of its effectiveness. It might or might not help, but it will probably not hurt if consumed. There are a lot of anecdotal reports that it reduces the side effects of chemotherapy. Major Bupleurum Decoction is a traditional Chinese formula that is often used on patients with liver cancer to control symptoms. Minor Bupleurum Decoction controls progression of the disease. It is also effective in keeping hepatitis from turning into liver cancer.
Precautions for Herbal Treatments
Do not use astragalus if you have fever or a skin infection. Avoid barberry, coptis, goldenseal or Oregon grape root if pregnant or have gallbladder disease. Do not use scutelleria when experiencing diarrhea. Avoid the above Chinese formulas if you have fever.
Diet
Consume safflower and perilla oils in salads and when cooking. They are rich in polyunsaturated omega 6 fatty acids that suppress liver cancer. A study published in Nutrition and Cancer in 1998 found that foods rich in the amino acid arginine can prevent the growth of liver tumors. Foods rich in this amino acid are chocolate, coconut, hazelnuts and sunflower seeds.
Ways to Reduce Risk of Liver Cancer
If you have a chronic liver disease and develop itching all over your body, be sure to see a doctor to get a alpha-fetoprotein test. This itching could be the result of bile salts gathering near the surface of the skin and can be an indication of early stage liver cancer. Taking 150 mg of selenium daily on a regular basis will lower the risk of developing liver cancer. A Chinese study published in Biological Trace Elements in 1997 followed 100,000 people and found a 35 percent reduction in liver cancer cases over eight years. When the supplements were stopped, the rate of cancer began to rise again. For people infected with hepatitis B, smoking, drinking and low levels of vitamin A can increase risk of developing this cancer. There are vaccinations against this form of hepatitis. Avoid getting hepatitis C by limiting alcohol and exposure to toxins. Avoid medications that cause liver damage if possible. Always practice safe sex, avoid IV drug use and be cautious about getting tattoos and body piercings.

Sneezing is good. It's a reflex that is intended to rid your nasal passages of an irritant or infection. If you suppress a sneeze the irritants remain trapped in your nose. So go ahead and blow, and consider the following.
Instructions
1. Get away from environmental irritants: If the pollen count is high, go inside, turn on the air conditioner and close the windows; if you're allergic to your neighbor's cat, avoid Fluffy.
2. Wash your hands once you've removed yourself from the source of your sneezes, blow your nose and try to breath slowly from your diaphragm.
3. Treat any infection or cold you may have. (See "Treat A Cold.")
4. Consider taking an antihistamine. These over-the-counter drugs will dry up your nose and reduce that tickling, itchy feeling.
5. Time your medication dose with your activities. If you're taking an antihistamine to counteract allergies to pollen, dose yourself at least an hour before you go outside.
6. Check your furnace filters. If you begin sneezing when you turn on your furnace, your filters may be dusty and spreading irritants into your house.
7. Evaluate your sneeze to determine its cause. (See "Diagnose a Sneeze.")
8. Get tested for allergies. If you sneeze a lot and don't know why, and you don't have an ongoing infection, see an allergy doctor for skin testing.
9. Stay out of bright light if sunshine makes you sneeze.

Lemurian quartz comes from Brazil, Russia, Tibet, Zambia and the United States. Crystal practitioners claim Lemurian quartz that comes from Brazil develops a pink tinge when worked, and from the Ural Mountains of Russia it develops a blue tint. Some believe that inhabitants of the ancient land of Lemuria left messages in the quartz for those who would find them in modern times.
Differences
Individuals who discovered the Lemurian crystals report that the first crystals were found as individual crystals located in sand banks near a crystal mine on a mountain in Brazil. The Lemurian quartz located several years later in the Ural Mountains also occurred as individual crystals and were located near a former crystal mine. Quartz normally occurs in clusters of crystals in caves or areas of rock. Those who discovered the crystals claim that the Lemurians stored ancient wisdom in the crystals that humanity needs today.
Appearances
Lemurian quartz crystals appear clear with a frosted appearance toward the base of the crystal. In some lights, the crystals may take on a pink, blue, gold, smoky or rainbow appearance. The crystals have ladder-like striations along the face, and may exhibit hieroglyph-type markings on the crystal face when viewed with a magnifying glass. Raised triangles of crystal may appear on some or all of the faces.
Purpose
Crystal workers believe that the inhabitants of Lemuria, or Mu, left information imbedded in the crystals. This information includes bring balance to the spiritual and physical aspects of life, bring peace to the planet and use the healing energy perfected by the Lemurians. They claim users of the stones can enter deeper meditative states and access ancient wisdom and spirit guides with the stones. They access the healing energy of the crystals to real across distances and bring transformation to those who need it.
Use
Clear the mind prior to picking up the crystal. Touch it to the third eye, located just above where your eyebrows meet. Hold the crystal lightly in your hand and trace the striations with your left index finger as you open up your heart and mind to the wisdom located inside. Ask for what you need as you focus your eyes on the formations within the crystal. Follow the patterns into the crystal and allow your mind to explore the landscape and facets you find there.
Katrina Raphael says you can take the crystal in your hand and walk around a person, place or thing for three full circuits and create a protective light circle. She also reports that you can place the Lemurian quartz in crystal stone grids to create powerful healing energy.

Topaz is a precious gemstone that's found in many colors; the name comes from the island of Topazos, where the Romans originally found the stone. Topaz makes a versatile birthstone because of its wide range of colors.
Uses
Topaz is the birthstone for November, and the 4th and 19th wedding anniversary stone. It can be cut into most shapes and used in any type of jewelry.
Types
Topaz may be colorless or contain shades of yellow, brown, blue, pink or green. The most valuable type is an orange-yellow stone called Imperial Topaz.
Considerations
Topaz may resemble several other gemstones; the colorless variety can resemble a diamond, while other types may look like aquamarine, beryl or sapphire.
Warning
Citrine is a much less valuable stone that's difficult to differentiate from topaz. Some dishonest dealers have capitalized on this by selling citrine under the names Gold Topaz or Citrine Topaz, so make sure you're buying pure topaz and not an imitation.
Fun Fact
Topaz symbolizes loyalty and faithfulness in friendship, and is a symbol of strength.
There is a strong need for highly trained chiropractic medical billers. As with traditional medical treatment, chiropractic care must be properly coded according to CPT and ICD specifications. However, in order to receive maximum reimbursement, chiropractic manipulative therapy must be specifically documented according to stringent guidelines. Professional medical billers must learn standardized billing procedures and should adhere to the highest ethical standards. Learning the proper procedures can be daunting for less experienced professionals, however, there are some basic steps that can be taken to help you learn chiropractic medical billing.
Instructions
Steps
1. Research training courses and programs are offered by nationally accredited organizations, such as the American Medical Billing Association and the Medical Association of Billers. These organizations offer specialized classes and certification programs which are taught by professionals with extensive experience in chiropractic billing. In many cases, the individual courses are eligible for continuing education credits (CEUs). Make sure the training program includes formal courses in CPT and ICD coding.
2. Meet with the billing managers from various local chiropractic offices. Inquire about billing procedures and practices and ask for one-on-one training, if possible. Since billing practices vary from office to office, it would be wise to speak with multiple billing managers in order to get a broader idea of how reimbursements are processed.
3. Network with established practices and peer colleagues through online social networks to learn about available software packages and automated processes. Be sure to ask for feedback regarding specific packages, including the pros and cons with each system.
4. Make sure the software vendor you are considering has a dedicated trainer on-staff before implementing an automatic billing system into your practice. It is important to have the trainer conduct extensive hands-on training with staff in advance of system implementation. Staff should be given plenty of time to become comfortable with the system and ask any questions they may have about features and functions.
5. Attend national seminars on maximizing reimbursements and minimizing risks. Many national organizations as well as private companies offer periodic training seminars targeted towards improving revenue collection for chiropractic practices.

Total hip replacement surgery is used to treat people with severe hip joint damage from arthritis or injury. The procedure has a 90 percent success rate, and following rehabilitation, patients can expect to regain full mobility of the hip joint. During the surgical procedure, the damaged hip joint will be removed and replaced by an artificial joint. Since there are several different hip replacement procedures, it is best to consult with your doctor to determine which method is best for you.
Standard Hip Replacement Procedure
Before beginning the operation, your doctor will administer a general anesthesia or a spinal block to prepare you for surgery. In a standard hip replacement procedure, the surgeon will make an incision between 10 to 14 inches over the side of the hip and through the layers of your skin, muscle tendons and ligaments. Once the incision is complete, the surgeon will remove any damaged bone and cartilage while leaving all of the healthy bone intact. Then, a prosthetic socket will be inserted into the pelvic bone followed by a prosthetic ball that attaches to a stem inside your thighbone. This completes the surgery, and a nurse will likely move you to a recovery area while the anesthesia wears off. Most people fully recover between six to eight weeks after the operation, and you can expect your new artificial joint to act the same way same as a healthy hip joint.
Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement Procedure
Minimally invasive hip replacement surgery is another way to treat people with severe hip joint damage. It is less invasive than the standard hip replacement surgery and also causes less soft tissue disruption. This procedure is said to reduce post-operative recovery time as well as pain associated with the surgery. However, studies comparing minimally invasive hip replacement surgery with the standard hip replace surgery show mixed results, making it hard to determine which procedure is more effective.
During a minimally invasive hip replacement procedure, the surgeon will use the same prosthesis as in regular hip surgery, but it is performed using much smaller incisions. There are two different methods of minimally invasive hip surgery. Depending on multiple factors such as, the patient's arthritis, bone type and body size, your doctor will determine which method is best suited for you. The first type of procedure is called the "two incision method" in which the surgeon makes two small incisions about two inches long around the hip. The artificial hip is then placed into the body between the two incisions. The second type of procedure, known as the "one incision method," works the same way as the previous method, only the surgeon will reduce the incision to less than four inches long.

Pursed-lip breathing is similar to blowing out a candle, just slower.
Physical exercise helps you improve strength and endurance -- it improves coordination, breathing, promotes relaxation, helps you manage weight and decreases the amount of oxygen needed by your muscles. Breathing exercises can do essentially the same thing. Diaphragmatic breathing and pursed-lip breathing are both useful exercises you can do anywhere, anytime to help you breathe easier.
Purse-Lip Breathe
Slowly inhale through your nose with your mouth closed. Now exhale through your mouth with lips pursed, as though you are blowing out a candle. Passively exhale approximately twice as long as you inhale. When inhaling, breathe in quietly and passively. In other words, don't force the air in or out of your lungs, let it flow smoothly and slowly.
Why it Helps
Pursed-lip breathing is done to remove trapped air held within the air sacs or alveoli in your lungs. It helps increase the amount of oxygen you breathe in called respiration, and the amount of oxygen transported to your cells, called ventilation. Pursed-lip breathing helps keep your airway open longer, making it easier to breathe. This breathing technique also helps prevent shortness of breath.
Who Can Benefit
Trapped air is often the result of emphysema, chronic bronchitis and sometimes asthma, as well as other chronic pulmonary diseases. These diseases are often lumped together under the term chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. The disease process is usually slow and gradually limits the amount of air flow into and out of your lungs. People with COPD often suffer from low oxygen levels as well as high blood pressure. A diminished breathing capacity makes it more difficult for the heart to pump blood throughout the body.
Activities of Daily Living
Pursed-lip breathing, walking, using an exercise bicycle, stretching exercises and relaxation techniques are all useful in increasing the efficiency of oxygen use and distribution within your body. Coordinated breathing activities, such as pursed-lip breathing, can improve your ability to complete daily activities, such as walking up and down stairs and carrying objects without becoming short of breath.

The National Headache Foundation estimates that nearly 30 million Americans are afflicted by migraine headaches each year. A migraine is a severe headache often accompanied by specific symptoms that vary in degree and frequency. The triggers for migraine headaches may be too much visual stimulation, loud noises, food intolerance, missing meals, hormonal changes, stress and other unknown causes. Migraine headaches afflict women more often than men, and migraines tend to run in families.
Visual Auras
Auras are vision changes that may accompany a migraine, and for some individuals, auras indicate that a migraine is starting. Tunnel vision, blind spots, blurred vision, wavy lines and flashing spots are all indicators of a migraine aura. These vision changes may start up to an hour before migraine pain hits.
Persistent Headaches
Individuals afflicted with migraines experience intense headaches that severely limit their daily activities. The pain may last only a few hours or continue for several days. For people who regularly experience migraines, the pain often starts in the same area of the head and radiates outward as the migraine progresses. Migraine headaches often have a characteristic pounding or throbbing that accompanies the headache.
Nausea
Feeling nauseated is a common migraine headache symptom. The degree of nausea may directly correlate with the amount of pain someone is experiencing. Some individuals may also experience vomiting during a migraine. Vomiting may temporarily relieve pain or pressure for some people, but the pain usually returns.
Light and Sound Sensitivity
Not only does light sensitivity occur for many people experiencing migraines, it may be a trigger for migraines. During a migraine, some individuals find that even common sounds cause excruciating pain. Migraine sufferers often seek a quiet, darkened room to cope with sensitivity and pain.
Eye Pressure
Pain and pressure behind the eyes may accompany a migraine headache. For many people, the area directly behind the eyes is where the pain starts. A feeling of pressure or pounding in and around the eyes may indicate a migraine is beginning, or the feeling may last throughout the migraine.
Fatigue
Migraine sufferers are often tired and may feel weaker during an attack. Enduring the intense pain that accompanies a migraine can be exhausting, but some individuals experience fatigue and weakness during the early stages of the migraine or just prior to an attack. Individuals may also notice tingling or numbness in the extremities.

Metastatic liver tumors are also called secondary liver tumors. The primary site of the cancer, or the origins of the cancer, is somewhere else on the body (the colon is the most common site of primary cancers that metastasize to the liver, but many other cancers also do as well). The primary cancer has metastasized, or grown and spread to the liver. The liver is a very common site of metastases because of the liver's function as a center to filter blood and wastes from elsewhere in the body. Cancer cells often come to the liver through the blood stream and begin to grow there.
Treatment
Treatments vary depending on the extent of the metastases both in the liver and in other parts of the body. Metastatic liver cancer itself can be treated with surgery, if that is the only site of metastases. However, often when cancer spreads to the liver, it also spreads to other areas of the body (except with colon cancer, which commonly spreads to the liver only). Surgery is possible on the liver because the liver has amazing regenerative properties--up to 80 percent of it can be removed, and it will simply grow back within several weeks. Liver metastases can also be treated by radiation, chemotherapy or some combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
Cryosurgery
Cyrosurgery is a method of removing cancer cells from the liver. It involves using a needle to freeze the tumor. This tends to be less effective than surgery because it is difficult to make the temperature of the tumor low enough to freeze it without adversely affecting nearby blood vessels and because cancer cells may be left behind.
Ablative Therapy
Ablation involves the use of chemicals to destroy the tumor, instead of surgery or freezing. No incision is required for percutaneous ablation, but an incision is required to use radiofrequency ablation or alcohol ablation (the injection of radioactive chemicals or alcohol into the tumor). These treatments can be used as the sole treatment method or can be used to shrink a tumor to make it small enough to remove surgically.
Embolization
Embolization involves killing the tumor by cutting off its blood supply. Doctors block the artery that supplies blood to the liver (the hepatic artery) and cut off the majority of blood flow to the liver. This deprives the tumor of the blood and oxygen it needs to survive.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy may be administered intravenously and reach the liver through the blood vessels, or it can be pumped directly into the liver. Typically, the pump method is only used if the primary cancer that caused the liver metastases was colon cancer. Chemotherapy may be used after surgery and is called adjuvant therapy, to kill cancer cells that remain after liver surgery. Chemotherapy can also be used before surgery and is called neo-adjuvant therapy--to shrink the tumor so it is small enough to be removed.

Age spots come in many different shapes and colors. However, they are impossible to deny as we get older. Some are caused by sun damage, other by diet and other by stress. No two aging spots are the same. Fortunately, there are several options for clearing age spots from your skin.
Instructions
1. Consult a doctor about laser treatments. Dermatologists use lasers to remove a variety of skin deformities including aging spots. This method can be very costly and very painful and does not work on all types of aging spots. Make an appointment to have your trouble areas looked at.
2. Purchase a pigment lightening gel. Several companies offer products which you apply to the spots and are supposed to clear the area. There are dozens of different products that cover a wide cost spectrum.
3. Begin a regular exercise routine. Many maladies our bodies suffer are a direct result of the condition of our bodies. Beginning to exercise more helps build up the body’s natural defenses and in many cases can clear age spots from the skin.
4. Change your diet in addition to exercise. Diet and exercise work hand in hand to improve your wellness. Eating more fruits and vegetables and avoiding fried, fatty foods and junk food will contribute to your skin’s health and eventually reverse the age spots.
5. Include a variety of vitamins into your diet also helps clear the signs of aging on the skin. Beta-Carotene slows the aging process. Vitamin C is an antioxidant which helps aide tissue repair. Vitamin E helps slow the aging process and aid in tissue repair by taking either a pill or rubbing cream on the spots.

Relapse prevention therapy, RPT, is a method those with substance addictions can be taught to use in order to avoid lapses in control over their addiction. This method is also sometimes used by patients with bi-polar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and other mental illnesses where the patient must control specific behaviors over a long period of time.
Understanding Relapse
RPT first helps people to understand relapse as a process. It identifies situations and events most likely to cause a relapse. In a high percentage of relapses, these causes include interpersonal conflict, social pressure and negative emotional states like depression and anger.
Successful treatment of addiction gives patients a feeling of self control and a good self image. When a sudden personal conflict, episode of significant loss or anger, or involvement with a peer group that strongly encourages substance abuse shakes the feeling of confidence and self efficacy a patient has developed, she is likely to relapse. This further challenges the patient's self image and sense of self control. The result is often a full-blown relapse.
High Risk Situations, Urges and Cravings
RPT helps patients learn to identify high risk situations. This may include identifying peer groups likely to strongly encourage lapses, interpersonal situations likely to lead to intense conflicts and mental states that make self control more difficult.
Past behavior is analyzed to help patients identify their specific emotional and situational triggers and specific feelings that lead up to substance abuse are identified.
Dealing with High Risk Situations
Patients make an active plan for how they will deal with high-risk situations. Peer groups they will avoid are identified. When the peer group that encourages relapses cannot be avoided, as is often the case with family members, specific strategies on control access are reviewed.
Mental states that encourage relapse, like anger, grief or fear are identified. In some cases specific therapy for these states is provided. Targeted anger, grief and phobia counseling can provide very specific emotional management techniques that help prevent relapse.
Strategies for handling interpersonal contact are addressed. Specific skills that address early conflict resolution, recognizing likely sources of conflict, learning withdraw from conflict when it cannot be successfully addressed can help patients reduce relapses.
Damage Control During Lapses
If a patient can recover quickly from an initial lapse, it need not become a full relapse. Learning deal, quickly and efficiently, with the first mistake, makes it possible to recover quickly. RPT helps patients decide how they will react if they engage in unwanted behavior. They may decide to withdraw themselves immediate from a peer group or relationship which appears to have caused the lapse. They may elect to seek immediate professional treatment for mental states that make the lapse possible.
The key, during a first lapse, is to take immediate action to terminate the stimulus that has caused the lapse. Even if this break can only be temporary, it allows the patient the opportunity to recover self control before their self image and feeling of self sufficiency has been damaged.
Therapy After Relapse
One symptom of a full relapse is the desire to abandon all therapy and to give up all hope of controlling the unwanted behavior. RPT prepares patients for this stage of relapse and helps them identify actions they will take after a lapse or relapse that will put them back into therapy.
Creating Balance
RPT therapy helps patients identify ways and means by which they can cope with the situations likely to cause lapses, deal with lapses when they happen so they do not become full blown relapses, and continue therapy to help ensure relapses when and if they occur are short.

Hospital discharge planning is the process of arranging care for a patient following a hospital stay. Discharge planning is usually taken care of by someone within the hospital, such as a social worker, nurse or case manager. This person will help the patient and/or caretaker of the patient arrange services like nursing home care, rehabilitative care and outpatient medical treatment. Effective discharge planning is essential to proper recovery and can significantly decrease the chance that a patient will be readmitted to the hospital.
Patient Evaluation
Before any type of aftercare planning begins, a doctor needs to evaluate the patient to determine how much and what type of assistance he will need after his hospital stay. The results of the evaluation should be discussed with the patient or his representative. The doctor also needs to talk to the patient about things such as medications or diet changes following his treatment, what activities he can or cannot do and any medical equipment he may need such as a wheelchair or oxygen tank.
Discharge Planning
The hospital must provide discharge planning if the doctor determines it is necessary for the patient. Often doctors will request discharge planning if the patient needs nursing home care. It is the responsibility of the discharge planner to provide the patient or her representative with a list of possible nursing homes. The planner should also provide the patient with information about the different homes and identify places that have vacancies. While it is the patient's duty to contact the nursing homes and choose the home she prefers, a good discharge planner will continue with a follow-up to the home and provide that agency with medical information about the patient.
Potential Problems
Proper discharge planning can improve the patient's health and reduce readmission to the hospital. However, not all hospitals provide successful discharge planning services, and there is no universal system in the United States for hospitals to follow. According to the Family Caregiver Alliance, 18 percent of Medicare patients discharged from the hospital are readmitted within 30 days. Nowadays, hospitals are releasing patients more quickly, causing improper planning and leading to medical problems down the road.
Patients also may run into problems when they are looking for nursing homes. For example, a patient's preferred nursing home may not have any vacancies and the hospital may try to pressure the patient with an alternative choice. If this happens to you, try to be firm with your original choice and see if the hospital can use its influence to get admission into the home. If not, be open to other options, but don't let the hospital force you to live where you would not feel comfortable.
Dyspepsia bread will help ease heartburn, abdominal pain, indigestion, gas, bloating and belching. It was once said the eating Dyspepsia bread would be healthier for someone that suffers from any of these conditions after eating. In the earlier days, this bread was eaten to relieve any one of these conditions. The bread is better than using antacids that are used today. The bread has a slight taste of sweetness, but is bland. The Dyspepsia bread is the best to use for an all-natural remedy for indigestion, bloating, gas, belching and heartburn.
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
2. Combine 3 quarts of unboiled wheat meal, 1 quart of warm soft water, 1/4 cup molasses and 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a large bowl. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
3. Leave mixture sit in bowl while greasing the two bread pans. Flour the breadboard or counter top so the bread mixture will not stick when separating the mixture into two loaves.
4. Take the mixture from the bowl and cut mixture in half making two separate loaves. With clean hands dipped in flour, manipulate the doughy mixture into two loaves. This only takes a few minutes. There is no need to kneed this bread.
5. Place each individual loaf into the greased bread pans and place in preheated oven for one hour. Do not open the oven door until the bread is done baking.

A choking incident is extremely traumatic, for both the victim and the people who witness the episode. Family and friends, in particular, may find themselves badly shaken after watching a loved one struggle for her life. The victim will likely be traumatized as well, and may have sustained injuries or other damage that she will need to recover from. Read on to learn recover from a choking incident.
Instructions
1. Check to make sure that the victim is breathing normally. She may cough profusely following a choking incident. This is natural and indicates that the obstruction has been cleared.
2. Encourage the victim to sit down. An extended period of time without oxygen decreases the blood flow to the brain, which could cause the person to pass out.
3. Check the person for signs of head injury, especially if the victim was alone when he started choking. He may have fallen down or banged his head in some other way.
4. Check for other kinds of injuries, such as ribs that might have been cracked while performing the Heimlich maneuver, whether on another person or yourself.
5. Check the victim's heart rate to be sure it is normal. Resting heart rate varies with age, but you want to make sure the pulse is regular and strong.
6. Call 911 in the case of serious injury or persistent dizziness.
7. Talk about what happened, especially with any children involved. Discuss whether the situation could be avoided or handled better in the future.
8. Give the affected person extra TLC for the rest of the day, particularly if he is a child. A little extra attention and tenderness will help him recover more quickly.

There are three major forms of blood cancer--leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma--each of which is classified according to the type of cell involved and other criteria related to onset and outcome.
Leukemia
Leukemia is a malignancy of the white blood cells (WBCs) in which there is an abnormal increase in the number of WBCs. As they proliferate, they crowd out and replace the normal cells. Leukemia is classified under two categories--type of WBC involved and onset/progression--and these are combined to name the four types of leukemia. All types of leukemia can manifest in non-specific symptoms that include weakness, fatigue, decreased appetite, anemia, swollen lymph nodes and an enlarged liver or spleen.
Classifications of Leukemia
Acute leukemia presents with more immediate and severe symptoms such as anemia and bleeding. It also progresses at a rapid rate. Chronic leukemia may have no symptoms at first and it progresses so slowly that people with this disease can live a long time even without treatment.
The two types of cells involved are lymphocytes and myelocytes. In lymphocytic leukemia, there is uncontrolled growth of lymph cells. These may be adult or immature cells. Myelocytes are young, immature cells in the bone marrow.
Four Types of Leukemia
Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood leukemia. In this type young lymphocytes, called lymphoblasts, are malignant. In addition to the non-specific symptoms, bleeding, easy bruising, and infection are present. Additionally, as the overgrowth of cancerous cells accumulates, the lymph nodes, liver and spleen become enlarged.
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is rare under in people the age of 30--most cases are diagnosed in people over 60. In CLL the adult lymphocytic cells are malignant. At first there may be no symptoms but the defective lymphocytes have an abnormally long life span and as the disease spreads, infections occur and the skin is affected.
Acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) represents half of the leukemia diagnosed in teenagers and young adults. It's also the most common form of leukemia in adults. Symptoms are the same as those found in ALL.
Chronic Myelocytic Leukemia (CML) can strike at any age, but it is uncommon before the age of 10 and is typically diagnosed between 45 and 55. Just like CLL, progression is slow but eventually it enters a more proliferative phase and can evolve into an acute phase called a blast crisis. In a blast crisis, the normal elements found in the blood are almost entirely replaced by immature blast cells.
Lymphoma
Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph cells--the lymphocytes--in which they grow abnormally and out of control. Doctors once thought there was a distinct difference between lymphoma and lymphocytic leukemia, but with scientific advances they are learning that the differences are not so specific. However, they are still classified as different cancers and lymphoma is further categorized as either Hodgkin's or non-Hodgkin's.
Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Hodgkin's is usually diagnosed between the ages of 15 to 40 or in people older than 50 and is found more frequently in men than women. Hodgkin's is more localized with less spreading of the malignant cells. The cancer primarily involves the lymph nodes, spleen, and sometimes the liver. Treatment of this form of blood cancer is successful 75 percent of the time. The symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes, fever, night sweats, weight loss, and enlargement of the spleen and liver. Pruritus, which is itchy spots caused by irritated nerves, may also be present.
Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Representing the majority lymphomas, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is the sixth most common cancer in the U.S. NHL is leukemia-like with the cancer spreading in 50 percent of children and 20 percent of adults. NHL is further categorized into low, intermediate, or high grade malignancies. Low means slow growing, and high refers to aggressive growth.
Multiple Myeloma
This is a cancer of the bone marrow in which there is uncontrolled growth of plasma cells. Cancerous plasma cells collect in the bones causing them to swell and making them weak. The symptoms include anemia, bleeding, infections, and weakness. Also, increased levels of one type of antibody--immunoglobulin--causes the blood to become too thick. This is a rare form of blood cancer that is diagnosed more often in men and primarily in people over the age of 60.
Opalescence is a tooth bleaching/whitening kit that purports to whiten teeth for years by using carbamide peroxide. Carbamide peroxide works to penetrate and whiten teeth like hydrogen peroxide, but it works more slowly and allows for whiter, brighter teeth.
Dental Trays
Because Opalescence is an in-office whitening system, the first step in whitening with the Opalescence tooth whitening system is to have a set of dental trays made to fit your teeth. Your dentist will get impressions of your teeth so the whitening trays will fit perfectly in your mouth.
Preparation
Brush your teeth prior to using the gel trays by using a tooth-whitening product such as Rembrandt or Colgate White and using a medium toothbrush. Brush for 3 minutes or more to remove plaque buildup.Use a paper towel or soft cloth to dry teeth before using the Opalescence product.
Application
Put the Opalescence gel in the bottom and top trays in the front section that will cover the front of your teeth. Add about a 1/4 of a tube of product. Do not overload the trays with the Opalescence gel. No gel should come out of the edges. Slide the trays onto the upper and then lower teeth. Use a cotton swab or paper towel to remove excess product. Leave on overnight for best results. In the morning, remove, rinse and brush.
Recommendations
Use the whitening trays nightly until maximum whiteness has been achieved (up to 2 months). Use as needed for maintenance a few times per week to keep your teeth white. Rinse trays after each use. Stay away from soda, coffee or foods that might stain your teeth to keep them their brightest.

HPV (human papilloma virus) is one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease in the United States. The Mayo Clinic For Medical Research and the Centers For Disease Control estimate that at any given point there are 20 million people in the United States with active HPV infection.
Definition
HPV actually comprises a family of approximately 100 related strains of human papilloma virus, all of which produce similar symptoms in infected persons.
Initial Symptoms
HPV infection often has no initial symptoms. This is one reason for its prevalence, as people often do not know they are carriers and continue to spread the virus.
Genital Warts
When symptoms do appear, it is often in the form of warts on the penis or vagina. They may be in the form of a flat lesions or a protruding stem-like bumps.
Respiratory Lesions
HPV can also produce lesions in the upper respiratory tract. These will be visible in the back of the mouth, tonsils and throat. They may also be present internally on the lungs.
Plain Warts
Children who have been exposed to HPV often gets warts on the hands, arms or other extremities. These warts also occasionally appear on the skin surrounding the fingernails.
Cervical Cancer
Women who have active long-term HPV infections are at increased risk for cervical cancer. The Mayo Clinic For Medical Research estimates that 70% of all cases of cervical cancer are caused by an underlying HPV infection.

The thyroid is a small organ that is responsible for secreting the thyroid hormone. This hormone is responsible for controlling the body's metabolism. As a result, people who have low levels of thyroid hormone may feel sluggish and fatigued, constantly feel cold and put on weight easily. People with low levels of thyroid hormone may take a drug called Synthroid, which works to replace it.
Common Side Effects
The most common side effects from using Synthroid, especially over the long term, are feelings of anxiety, insomnia and muscle tremors. Patients may also experience heart palpitations. These side effects can occur at any time, as the levels of thyroid hormone in the blood fluctuate.
Synthroid and Weight Loss
The thyroid gland secretes a hormone that regulates metabolism. Because Synthroid works to replace this hormone, long-term use can lead to some of the characteristics of an overactive metabolism. As a result, over time people taking Synthroid can lose weight and have their appetite increase.
Synthroid and Vitamins
In some cases, people taking Synthroid may be told not to take certain vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, iron and magnesium. This is because these minerals can interfere with Synthroid's absorption. As a result, people who are taking Synthroid make suffer from deficiencies of these minerals, which can result in conditions such as anemia.
Synthroid and Osteoporosis
There is also evidence that long-term use of Synthroid can lead to the minerals in the bones breaking down. This can lead to a loss of bone density, a condition known as osteoporosis. It is not known if this is due to a direct action of Ssynthroid itself or if Synthroid interferes with calcium absorption.
Synthroid and Other Medications
One of the disadvantages of taking Synthroid for long periods of time is that it can interact with other medications. For example, Synthroid can react with lithium and certain antidepressants, which can lead to hypothyroidism. Some of the contrasting dyes that are used for radiology can also interact with Synthroid and either increase or decrease its effectiveness. Synthroid can also interact with many drugs for diabetes, resulting in the need for an increased dosage.
Restaurant owners know the power of setting the right mood. Bright lights, checkered vinyl tablecloths and upbeat music set a fun, casual mood. Candlelight, linen tablecloths and violin music set a romantic mood. You can easily create the feel of your favorite restaurant, bar or spa in your own home by learning set the right mood.
Types
The main moods for home or business settings are romantic, therapeutic, cheerful or themed (a spooky mood, for example). You can combine moods according to personal taste and desire.
Features
The main features to keep in mind when setting a mood are lighting, scent, sound and texture. Note that these features engage four senses--sight, smell, hearing and touch.
Identification
You can set a romantic mood by using soft, dim lighting, rich dark fabrics and pleasant scents. Sandalwood essential oil and myrrh oil are examples of romantic scents. Scent should be subtle---never overwhelming---or it will distract rather than enhance the mood you are trying to create.
Setting a spooky mood for a Halloween party, or other spooky event, also requires dim lighting. Both romantic lighting and spooky lighting take advantage of the fact that darkness creates a sense of mystery.
To set a spooky mood, scent should be subdued. It is not easy to re-create a graveyard dirt smell in your living room---though patchouli oil, which is very earthy, will work. Creaky doors, distant screams, hissing cauldrons and howling wolves are suitable sounds to set a spooky mood. Total silence also works well---silence creates suspense.
Soft yet cheerful lighting helps set a therapeutic mood for massage, yoga or meditation. Lighting should mimic, or make use of, natural sunlight. You can use nature sounds such as ocean surf or light rain falling, or soft instrumental music. Scent should be clean and light. Rose oil, sandalwood and frankincense all work well to set a therapeutic mood. Use natural fabrics (for throws and upholstery) that feel pleasant against the skin.
Color choice for cheerful moods depends on whether the mood should relax or invigorate. Cool tones--light blues, light green and lavender-- work well for setting a relaxing mood. Warm tones--yellow, red, orange and peach hues---help set an invigorating mood.
Function
A room's ambiance helps people transition between stressful daily life and special personal time. Color, scent, lighting and sound affect us in subtle, and sometimes not subtle, ways. Although most people can make the psychological transition without external props, a well-designed living space assists the process.
Considerations
Lighting, sound, texture and color must match individual preferences to work well. For example, while dimmed lighting and warm colors are standard for creating a romantic mood, details such as actual color and texture need a personal touch. Satin slippers and black lace may be romantic for one person and a turnoff for another. If you are setting a romantic mood for another person, make sure you find out what she likes and dislikes first.

Hydrosalpinx can cause infertility. It is a condition that, once diagnosed, may be able to be treated depending upon the severity of the condition. The key is getting to your doctor, getting the initial diagnosis and understanding the condition.
Defined
A hydrosalpinx is when one or both of the fallopian tubes are swollen due to a past infection. A normal pregnancy cannot occur because the egg and sperm cannot come together because of this blockage.
Causes
Causes of a hydrosalpinx include old infections, such as a sexually transmitted disease, surgeries or scar tissue.
Symptoms
Some women experience vaginal discharge or frequent abdominal pain while others have no symptoms as all.
Diagnosis
Hydrosalpinx can be diagnosed through X-ray, surgery and ultrasound.
Treatments
Depending upon the severity of your condition, the doctor may be able to perform surgery to open up your fallopian tubes which would enable pregnancy to occur. If your tubes have too much damage, you may have to have IVF or vitro-fertilization therapy.
Frolov derived some of his ideas by observing how whales breathe.
The Frolov Breathing Technique is a method of breathing developed by Vladimir Frolov, a Russian researcher who studied how different animals used oxygen. In order to perform the breathing technique, you need to use a specialized device called a Frolov Breathing Device. The device works by using water in a cup to add resistance to your normal breathing patterns. This resistance helps you lengthen your breath cycles, which Frolov theorized would cause the overall oxygen level in your body to decrease, which will cause your body's cells to make their own oxygen. This will lead to a proper oxygen level in the body, and cut down on oxygen based free radicals that can harm you.
Instructions
1. Pour water into the measuring glass. The amount of water that you put in the device will range between 10 and 20 milliliters, depending on your age. A chart that comes with the device will tell you exactly how much to use. Most adults will use about 20 ml.
2. Pour the water into the largest container, called the outer container. Then snap the circular lid on top of the inner container, and place the inner container into the outer container and snap it closed.
3. Insert one end of the tube into the top of the lid, and place the mouthpiece over the other end of the tube.
4. Place yourself in a comfortable position where you can breathe freely. This can be sitting at a table, reclining in a chair or lying on the couch.
5. Hold the device upright and place your mouth over the mouthpiece. Close your lips so no air can get in or out around the mouthpiece.
6. Breathe in quickly through the mouthpiece. The process of breathing in should take about two to three seconds.
7. Breathe out slowly through the mouthpiece. Breathing out should take between seven or eight seconds, so that the entire process takes about 10 seconds. Continue to breathe in and out for about five to 10 minutes.
8. Increase the amount of water in the device, the amount of time for each respiratory cycle and the amount of time you do the exercise, as you progress. After two months you should have an additional 5 to 10 ml of water in the device and be using it for 25 to 30 minutes. The length of the average respiratory cycle should gradually increase on its own, without you having to force it.

Steam rooms can be beneficial in treating muscle aches and pains and in ridding the body of dangerous toxins. Steam rooms are often found in four-star hotels and spas, but making a steam room in your own home may be simpler and less costly than you might have imagined. It's just a matter of keeping the outside air out and making sure the steam stays in.
Instructions
1. Steam-proof the walls. Regular walls allow steam to seep in, causing a lot of structural damage. Tile the walls or cover them with glass to prevent steam from reaching them.
2. Seal the room with silicone. Inspect the walls of your steam room for any holes or cracks. Seal any holes and seal around all fixtures in the room with silicone to further prevent steam escape.
3. Slope the ceiling. The ceiling should be no higher than 8 feet from the floor to allow for the proper buildup of steam, and it should have a slope of at least 2 inches for every foot of ceiling. The slope allows condensation to slide down the ceiling and prevents hot condensation from dripping on steam bathers.
4. Situate the seats under the higher end of the ceiling. Placing the seats beneath the higher part of the ceiling keeps bathers out of the way of dripping water from the ceiling. Flat surfaces allow condensation to build up, leading to mildew and mold, so install the seats at a gentle angle to allow water to run off.
5. Attach a tight-fitted door. A small gap at the bottom of the door can help with airflow, but the rest of the door should be tight-fitted to prevent the steam from escaping.
6. Install a steam generator. The steam generator can be placed in a nearby closet, but it must be accessible in case it needs servicing. The steam generator will come with its own set of manufacturer installation instructions. Those instructions will explain attach the copper piping from the generator to the steam room.
As with any part of the body, it is completely possible to suffer from nerve damage within the fingertips of your hands. It may be a single fingertip, five of your fingertips, or even all of your fingertips. It really just depends on the cause and nature of the damage. If you were to suffer nerve damage in the fingertips, you'd generally experience the same sort of symptoms as someone else, with just a variance in the intensity of the symptoms.
Sensitivity
One of the most common symptoms of damage to the nerves in your fingertips would be a change in sensitivity to these small areas of your body. It may be a heightened sensitivity, where hot or cold will feel more intense, or a reduced sensitivity, where you'd have a difficult time actually feeling temperature changes.
Burning Sensation
When you suffer damage to the nerves in the fingertips, you may also begin to notice episodes of burning within the tips of your fingers.
Tingling Sensation
Some people may not suffer from any burning or change in sensitivity to their fingertips due to nerve damage. Instead, they may begin to undergo episodes of tingling or prickling within the tips of their fingers.
Pain
It's also not uncommon for someone to suffer from episodes of pain in the tips of his fingers when nerve damage has occurred in this area of the body.
Numbness
Another common symptom of nerve damage in the fingertips, which basically goes hand-in-hand with your sensitivity, will involve some numbness, meaning that it may become quite difficult to feel things with the tips of your fingers.
There are many alternatives to facelift surgery that may be more appropriate or cost-effective, depending on your situation. It is best to discuss your reasons for wanting facelift surgery with a medical professional to explore the options available to you.
Instructions
Learn About Alternatives to Facelift Surgery
1. Consider other options that produce similar results to facelift surgery. There are several alternatives to explore that do not require surgery and are much less expensive, risky and permanent. Such alternatives include skin cremes, Botox, and chemical peels.
2. Seek our doctor's help with finding skincare products that reduce the physical signs of aging. Your doctor may be able to refer you to a dermatologist for help with choosing the best products for your skin. Some of these products may require a prescription.
3. Many over-the-counter skincare products are designed to help relieve skin damage caused by the sun. Such products may reduce the appearance of wrinkles and age lines.
4. Explore Botox procedures. Increasingly popular, Botox injections help to improve the appearance and firmness of skin temporarily, usually for up to 4 months. When injected into the face, Botox, a drug made from the same bacteria responsible for a fatal type of food poisoning, paralyzes the muscles and nerves in the face that would otherwise contract and cause the appearance of wrinkles.
5. Look into nonsurgical procedures designed to rejuvenate the skin on the face, such as chemical peels. A chemical peel is performed by applying a chemical solution to the face that causes the top layer of skin to blister and peel off, leaving a new, smoother layer. A dermatologist usually administers the chemical peel in the office as an outpatient procedure.

Potassium iodide, often combined with iodine, is a potent and fast-acting bactericide used in medical and dental applications. It is topically applied and causes irreversible damage and death to the bacteria. It is possible that conversion of iodide to iodine is necessary for this bactericidal activity to occur.
Iodide to Iodine
Potassium iodide solutions are used for some dental procedures.
Iodide in potassium iodide solutions can form iodine molecules (I2). These molecules are implicated in the oxidative destruction of bacterial cell membranes and the death of bacteria. Iodine/potassium iodide solutions are used routinely by medical professionals and dental surgeons as an antiseptic solution. Potassium iodide is faster-acting than most other topical antiseptics, and is therefore more useful for certain bactericidal applications.
Iodide Synergy
Synergy occurs when two separate forces act in the same direction.
It has been found that under acidic conditions, iodide in combination with manganese is a potent bactericide. It is effective at killing the common bacterium Staphylococcus aureus (staph). Staph infections are a common cause of disease in humans. Potassium iodide is a topical treatment that may be effective for treating skin diseases such as impetigo, boils and cellulitis.
Effects on Bacteria
Scientists use Petri dishes coated with bacteria to test bactericides.
Iodide or iodine-based topical bactericides first cause oxidative damage to the cell membrane of bacteria. This opens up the interior of the bacteria to further action by iodine. The iodine then acts by destroying enzymes required by bacteria for respiration. While bacteria can repair cell membranes, once the enzymes required for respiration are destroyed, cell death is irreversible.
Just as with any other divining tool, the pendulum needs to be cleansed and charged on a regular basis. Generally, pendulums should be cleansed before and after each use. For the purpose of this How To, we will cover ways to cleanse and charge a pendulum.
Instructions
Cleanse a Pendulum
1. On a day when the forecast is for lots of sun, place the pendulum outside on a ledge or window sill in the morning hours where it can get direct sunlight. Make sure to place it where it will not be disturbed and will be out of reach of others .
2. Leave the pendulum outside until the sun sets. Once the sun begins to set, bring the pendulum back into the house.
3. Similarly to when you charge gemstones and crystals using this method, when you hold the pendulum in your hand you should be able to feel if the pendulum is cleansed.
4. If the pendulum still feels a bit fuzzy, or weighted, then you may want to place it outside in the sun the following day. If the pendulum feels light and clear, then it has been fully cleansed.
A Second Way to Cleanse a Pendulum
5. Sit and relax. Clear your mind and focus your intent and purpose. You may want to ask Spirit, or whichever Divinity you feel most comfortable working with, to guide you.
6. Light the sandalwood incense. Say a prayer of cleansing and blessing.
7. Hold the pendulum in your power hand for a few minutes. Pass the pendulum through the incense smoke while saying a few words of cleansing and purification. Chanting intent works well, too.
8. Pass the pendulum through the incense smoke three times. Each time you pass it through, firmly restate your intent.
9. After the third pass, hold the pendulum and concentrate on the energies that you feel. If the pendulum feels light and clear, the cleansing is complete. If, however, the pendulum still feels a bit fuzzy, or weighted, you should repeat the cleansing. Once the pendulum feels light, the cleansing is done.
10. Allow the incense to burn itself out. Remember to thank Spirit!
Charge a Pendulum
11. Sit for a few minutes and relax. Take a few deep breaths and calm your mind. Focus your purpose and intent.
12. Hold the cleansed pendulum in your power hand. Focus your positive, intended energies and direct them to the divining tool that you hold.
13. Envision the energies as a thin white light spiraling down to the pendulum.
14. When the pendulum begins to "vibrate" with your energies the charge is complete.
15. Put the pendulum away and allow it to fully absorb the energies.
Staphylococcus, more commonly known as staph infection, varies widely in its ability to result in mild to life-threatening conditions. This bacteria can cause an ailment directly such as a skin malady to producing toxins that lead to such diseases and conditions as toxic shock syndrome and food poisoning. Many times it is difficult to find an antibiotic that the condition will respond to.
Skin Staph Infection
The site of staph infection on the skin will appear red and swollen. It will also be painful to the touch and result in a boil or abscess.
Drainage
The site of an abscess caused by staph infection may drain a pus-like liquid.
Flu-like Symptoms
Upon contracting a staph infection, you may feel as though you have the flu, including symptoms of an achy body, head ache, chills and fatigue.
Scalded Breast Syndrome
In breastfeeding mothers, staph infection can result in breast inflammation called scalded breast syndrome. This can be life threatening for the infant as staff bacteria can be released into the mother's milk.
Shortness of Breath
If the infections spreads through the blood stream, entering other body organs such as the lungs, shortness of breath may arise, sometimes even causing pneumonia to develop.
You can slice shiitake mushrooms before drying them.
Shiitake mushrooms have a distinctive flavor that is much richer than that of many other mushroom varieties. Additionally, they can strengthen your immune system and provide a high dose of antioxidants, according to the World's Healthiest Foods at whfoods.com. You can store fresh shiitake mushrooms in a paper bag in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. If you wish to store them for longer, however, you can dry them and store them indefinitely in an airtight container.
Instructions
1. Rinse your shiitake mushrooms thoroughly in cool running water to remove any grit, insects or other contaminants.
2. Slice your shiitake mushrooms into thin strips, if desired. This is not necessary, but will make your shiitake mushrooms dry faster and may be easier to use in some recipes.
3. Place your shiitake mushrooms into your dehydrator and run it according to the dehydrator's instructions. Dehydrate your mushrooms until they are light and fairly dry, but still slightly flexible rather than brittle or crisp. Alternately, spread your shiitake mushrooms onto a baking sheet and place them in your oven. Turn the oven's heat on as low as possible (generally 200 degrees Fahrenheit) and open the oven door. Leave the baking sheet in the warm, open oven until the shiitake mushrooms are dried.
4. Place the dried mushrooms into an airtight container and store them out of direct sunlight.
